Sony Xperia XZ2 Pre-Orders Open April 13, Priced At $799

Sony, today, announced availability of the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact smartphones. These two smartphones will be available for pre-order exclusively through Best Buy beginning this Friday, April 13, and will be available for purchase online starting April 20th. It will launch in-store on May 6, and be available through Amazon as well as other retailers beginning May 20. The Xperia XZ2 is going to be priced at $799, with the smaller Xperia XZ2 Compact priced at $649.

The Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact were both announced at Mobile World Congress in late February, as the third-generation of the XZ lineup that debuted last year. The XZ2 and XZ2 Compact sport all of the usual features you’d expect from Sony. Including a Snapdragon 845 processor inside, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Both are also waterproof with a rating of IP68 and sport Android Oreo. The Xperia XZ2 actually sports a new design language, using a glass back versus a metal back, while the Xperia XZ2 Compact sports a polycarbonate backside. This lineup also marks the first time that Sony has gone with a 18:9 aspect ratio here, though it does still have somewhat large bezels on the top and bottom. Sony also included a stronger vibration motor inside the Xperia XZ2, putting it on the same level as its DualShock 4 controllers for the PlayStation 4.

Both of these smartphones will sport fingerprint sensors in the US. Sony has moved the fingerprint sensor to the back of the device, which allows them to have them working in the US, finally. So that means that those that purchase the Xperia XZ2 or Xperia XZ2 Compact in the US won’t be getting a crippled device with a non-working fingerprint sensor. Which is definitely good to see. The Xperia XZ2 will be available in four colors: Liquid Silver, Liquid Black, Deep Green and Ash Pink. Meanwhile, the Xperia XZ2 Compact will be available in White Silver, Black, Moss Green and Coral Pink. The two devices will be sold unlocked, and will work on T-Mobile and AT&T. However the Xperia XZ2 Compact is also certified to work on Verizon – ironically, the flagship Xperia XZ2 is not. If you do want to purchase the Xperia XZ2 from Amazon and don’t want to wait, the international version is available now, for as low as $769, depending on the color you grab.
