Interested consumers in the United States may now purchase the Alcatel 1X from the website of the online retailer Amazon. The Alcatel 1X is the first smartphone from the device maker that ships with Android Oreo (Go Edition) pre-installed, and it comes with a price tag of $99.99. The Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a modified version of the Android operating system that is optimized for handsets equipped with low-end hardware specifications and it includes lightweight versions of popular Google apps like Google Go, Gmail Go, and Google Assistant Go. The Alcatel 1X also features a set of photo editing tools dubbed as the Social Mode and the handset also includes the Social Square functionality, which enables users to view recently captured images in one part of the screen while the camera viewfinder is still active. Furthermore, the smartphone comes with Instant Collage and Photo Booth features pre-installed.
The Alcatel 1X was officially announced during Mobile World Congress back in February, and the device is powered by the MT6739 chipset from the Taiwanese semiconductor firm MediaTek. This SoC is comprised of a quad-core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPU running at a maximum clock speed of 1.28GHz and the IMG PowerVR GE8100 GPU. The handset sports a 5.3-inch display with a resolution of 960 by 480 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Moreover, the device includes 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal flash storage, which could be expanded using a microSD card with a capacity of up to 32GB. The smartphone sports a single rear camera, which is equipped with a 13-megapixel sensor, while the front-facing selfie camera has an 8-megapixel module. To keep its lights on, the handset contains a 2,460mAh-capacity battery, and it supports connectivity features like NFC, 4G VoLTE, GPS, and Bluetooth 4.2.
Aside from Amazon, the Alcatel 1X with Android Oreo (Go Edition) will be available at Walmart.com and Best Buy within the next few weeks. While the handset will be available unlocked, it is only compatible with GSM networks, which means that consumers can only use the Alcatel 1X on the networks of AT&T and T-Mobile as well as on the MVNOs that utilize the network of the two carriers.
