First Guns Of Boom eSports Season Comes With $200k Prize Pool

Vilnius, Lithuania-based developer Game Insight is organizing the first eSports season of its mobile first-person shooter Guns of Boom in collaboration with ESL, having secured a $200,000 cash prize pool for the very best players on the planet, the firm said Friday. Its partnership with the world’s largest eSports company will see it start the inaugural season of its popular portable shooter on June 9, with Game Insight Chief Executive Officer Anatoly Ropotov calling the development a natural evolution of Guns of Boom which was envisioned as a competitive experience “from its very first day.”

About a year following its commercial debut on Android and iOS devices, Guns of Boom has been deemed balanced and ready for embracing eSports, with the game’s first season being set to start after some 50 million players already installed the online FPS. The first season will be exclusively available to Guns of Boom players in North America and Europe, with its first round at the G04 Open Cups only requiring them to reach level 22 before applying to participate through ESL’s website. All rounds will be hosted as part of the game’s PRO Play Mode that’s said to be a balanced environment conducive to competitive mobile gaming, with players hence being able to participate in ESL’s Go4 Open Cups from the comfort of their living rooms.

Two invitational tournaments are also planned at a later date, with the best four teams in Europe being set to face off against one another on July 29 in Katowice, Poland. Eight best teams in the world will subsequently be invited to compete for the title of the Guns of Boom Season One Champion in Los Angeles, though that particular event still doesn’t have a firm date attached to it. The eSports segment has recently started embracing mobile platforms on a large scale and is presently enjoying support of a wide variety of companies, including the largest giants of the technology industry such as Amazon whose annual Mobile Masters event is set to return next month.
