Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has just confirmed the design of the upcoming Mi Band 3 fitness tracker. The company’s CEO was spotted wearing an unknown fitness tracker during the launch of the Black Shark gaming smartphone a while back, and that device was rumored to be the Mi Band 3… well, Mr. Jun has just confirmed that it is the Mi Band 3, so we basically have a real-life image of the device already, as you can see in the provided image.
The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 will be announced on May 31, that much has been confirmed already, and it will launch along with the Mi 8 flagship, and MIUI 10, a new version of Xiaomi’s Android skin. Now, the Mi Band 3 will resemble the Mi Band 2 quite a bit, but the design of its top side will be a bit different, as its glass will be curved on the sides, unlike the Mi Band 2’s, which sported a flat glass panel. The Mi Band 3 will be removed from its silicone band from the top it seems, and if the leaked user manual is to be believed, the device will not only sport a touch-sensitive display this time around, but it will also support navigation gestures. A heart-rate sensor will probably be included in the package yet again, and it will be implemented in the same way as it was in the Mi Band 2. A separate capacitive key probably won’t be a part of the Mi Band 3, at least we can’t see one in the provided image, and one was not spotted in the official teaser image Xiaomi released a while back either.
Now, in addition to Lei Jun’s confirmation of the Mi Band 3’s design, a price tag for the device has surfaced as well. The device was briefly listed on the company’s official website, according to the provided info, along with its price tag, but the listing was removed shortly after it went live. In any case, that listing revealed a 169 Yuan ($26) price tag for the Mi Band 3, which is its price tag in China, but it will not be that much more expensive outside of Xiaomi’s homeland, as the Mi Band 2 was just a bit more expensive. The Mi Band 2 actually sold really great for Xiaomi, so it’s not surprising the company opted to manufacture the Mi Band 3, and keep it really affordable.
