The OnePlus 6 leaked online yet again earlier this week, with a set of low-resolution images showcasing the device from all angles making their way to Chinese Baidu forums. While far from the most detailed look at the upcoming Android flagship so far, the new set of images does illustrate the difference between the size of the notch present on the top of the OnePlus 6 and that of Apple’s iPhone X, the handset that truly popularized screen cutouts late last year despite not being the first smartphone with such a design cue to hit the market. According to the phone maker’s previous disclosure, the notch found on the OnePlus 6 is approximately 19.616 x 7.687mm in size and has been designed to be as minimal as possible without impacting the functionality of the handset.
Much like every other major smartphone manufacturer that embraced the notch so far, OnePlus isn’t claiming the cutout is an aesthetical choice but one that was made to maximize the amount of screen real estate offered to users without delivering a product with a larger physical footprint. The OnePlus 6 should hence be no bigger than the OnePlus 5T which measured 156.1 x 75 x 7.3mm in size, with recent rumors and teasers even suggesting the new Android phablet may be slightly slimmer than its direct predecessor. The latest set of leaks also shows the bottom-facing 3.5mm headphone jack OnePlus already committed to retaining, as well as the difference in looks between a OnePlus 6 with a visible notch and a hidden one.
The OnePlus 6 will be officially announced on May 16, with the Chinese firm being set to start retailing its first units on May 21 via pop-up stores scattered across the world. No general sale date has yet been provided by the original equipment manufacturer, though one is expected to be disclosed at the upcoming launch event, with OnePlus‘s previously employed product practices suggesting its next offering will become widely available for purchase no later than some ten days following its official announcement. The handset will boast a dual-camera setup, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip, and up to 256GB of storage space, with the company already confirming its most premium variant will also feature 8GB of RAM.
