Verizon has certified Sony’s Xperia XZ2 Compact Android flagship, having confirmed Sony’s recently released offering works on its wireless network. American consumers who are Verizon customers or are planning on becoming ones and are interested in buying the unlocked variant of the world’s most powerful smartphone with a 5-inch screen can hence use it with the company’s mobile service through its Bring Your Own Device program. Best Buy is selling compatible Xperia XZ2 Compact units, Verizon said, though the telecom giant isn’t offering the handset directly.
The fact that Sony’s small Android flagship now received Verizon’s certification should also guarantee the phone will support VoLTE on the company’s network and generally have no issues with connecting to any infrastructure from the largest mobile service provider in the United States. Originally announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, the main selling point of the Xperia XZ2 Compact is its small form factor that’s essentially non-existent in the flagship segment of the smartphone market, not counting Sony-made products. With Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 845 chip and 4GB of RAM, the Xperia XZ2 Compact boasts the same hardware power Samsung’s Galaxy S9 has on paper but is catering to consumers who dislike phablets.
While the U.S. variants of Sony’s Android phones came with disabled fingerprint readers for years due to patent issues, both the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact ship with working sensors. Sony‘s mobile business has been shrinking in recent years but its ultra-premium offerings are stilly enjoying extremely positive reviews from both critics and consumers alike and the tech giant repeatedly stated it will continue making smartphones moving forward. The Xperia XZ2 Compact’s flagship specs also include its camera, a 19-megapixel affair with support for 960fps slow-motion videos which it can capture at 1080p, thus surpassing even Samsung’s latest offerings which cap such footage at a 720p resolution.
