Two Nokia Phones With 18:9 Displays Get Certified By The FCC

Two upcoming Nokia smartphones have just been spotted getting the FCC approval and it looks like HMD Global will be using screens with an 18:9 aspect ratio for the phones, just like the recently released Nokia 7 Plus. Scrutinizing the details in the FCC documents, the unannounced handsets with model code number TA-1057 and TA-1063 will be having specifications that are not necessarily new in the mobile department, and that include a dual SIM slot.

In the bargain are a 2,900mAh battery, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and an NFC support for both the TA-1057 and TA-1063 handsets. The TA-1057 is the single SIM variant while the TA-1063 is the dual-SIM version. The details are scarce at the moment so it remains a mystery whether the phones in the cards are going to be affordable entry-level ones, mid-range, or the more expensive flagships. As of now, we haven’t heard anything official straight from HMD Global if the handsets’ displays will be made up of an IPS LCD panel like the store-bound Nokia X6 or an OLED panel like the pricey Nokia 8 Sirocco, but we have heard reports that the devices seem to be leaning towards the mid-range bracket and it kind of makes sense if we are looking at the 2,900mAh battery as the underlying premise of this assumption. While it’s still too early to speculate, the system on a chip that will likely match this battery capacity would be the one in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 line. That said, these details have to be taken with a grain of salt other than what was stated in the FCC documents.

Meanwhile, HMD Global just announced the Nokia X6 this week, confirming the specifications rumors of the device sporting a 5.8-inch IPS LCD display, the Snapdragon 636 chipset, 4GB and 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. The Finnish technology company will be holding an unveiling event on May 29 in Russia and it’s still uncertain at this point which phones will be introduced, although rumors believe it would be the 2018 iterations of the Nokia 2, Nokia 3, and Nokia 5. No word as of now if HMD Global intends to introduce the TA-1057 and TA-1063 phones during that event.
