It seems like Xiaomi is planning to release a new mid-range smartphone to the market, as the device surfaced on Geekbench. The Xiaomi ‘valentino’ popped up on Geekbench, and that is clearly the phone’s codename, so it will be called differently once it launches, of course. Now, as per Geekbench, this handset will be fueled by the Snapdragon 636 64-bit octa-core processor, a chip that is currently fueling the Redmi Note 5, ASUS ZenFone 5, Meizu E3, and so on, all in all, this is a mid-range processor, and a rather capable one at that.
Geekbench also reports that the device sports 6GB of RAM, and that it comes with Android 8.1 Oreo on top of it. This smartphone managed to score 1,485 points in the single-core, and 5,440 points in the multi-core test on Geekbench. This is clearly not the upcoming Redmi S2 which will become official on May 10, as that phone probably won’t arrive in a 6GB RAM model, while it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 625, not the Snapdragon 636. So, what phone is this? We’re still not sure, but it will probably be a part of the company’s ‘Redmi’ smartphone lineup, and it will also be quite affordable.
Now, Xiaomi seems to be working on more than one Android One smartphone at the moment, so in addition to the Mi A2 which is expected to launch in the near future (it will be a rebranded Mi 6X), Xiaomi is expected to announce yet another Android One phone, so could the Xiaomi ‘valentino’ be that device? Well, it is possible, this is a mid-range phone, and it comes with Android 8.1 Oreo, if Geekbench is to be believed, so… who knows, though we cannot really confirm anything at the moment, as this is the first time that this handset appeared online. Having said that, the aforementioned Redmi S2 handset will be announced on May 10 in China, Xiaomi confirmed that much quite recently, and the Redmi S2 is also rumored to become an Android One smartphone at some point, just like the Mi 6X, but it remains to be seen what will happen.
