The BlackBerry KEY2 has popped up in purportedly official renders yet again, following a reported leak of the same device from yesterday. This time around, however, the device is shown in a stunning black coloration. While the back of the device in previous renders was also black, those portrayed the handset in a silver frame. That same metallic tone was used in the keyboard surround and along the bezels, as well. In the new render, that’s been replaced with a sleek black metal. Although the change is relatively slight, it has the effect of making the entire device appear more understated. Interestingly enough, even the BlackBerry logo is shown in black in the new render – whereas it was shown in silver in prior renders.
The device itself has already passed through several regulatory agencies and has even been spotted on Geekbench in no fewer than two listings and configurations. The smartphone is expected to ship with a Snapdragon 660 SoC powering 8.1 Oreo and featuring two variants. One of those is expected to house 4GB of RAM while the other may arrive with 6GB of RAM. There’s no word yet on how much storage might be included but it isn’t unreasonable to expect that if it does ship in two variations, one will have more than the other. Similarly, there’s been no indication as to how large the included battery pack will be but the images that have been leaking all point to a USB Type-C charging port and rapid charging will almost certainly be supported. Moreover, the front-facing physical keyboard is all but guaranteed as a hallmark trait of the “KEY” series devices. Lastly, there is a dual rear camera setup shown in the renders, backed by an LED flash, but there’s no way to tell what those consist of just yet.
As for a launch date, the BlackBerry KEY2 will reportedly be unveiled at a New York-based event on June 7. That could mean that all of the finer details associated with a TCL-made Android device will be available this week. Pricing will likely be similar to the previous handset, the BlackBerry KEYone but it’s not possible to know sure until the company announces it officially.
