TCL recently unveiled the Alcatel 5V, and it will become available in select markets worldwide in July for $199.99. The Alcatel 5V utilizes TCL’s SIMGANIC design philosophy, which aims to offer a visually-striking design that is comfortable to handle. The smartphone also features the Face Key biometric security technology, which unlocks the handset within 0.5 seconds by detecting 106 key points in the person’s face, although people can also use the rear fingerprint sensor to unlock the smartphone. In addition, Google Lens is integrated into the camera interface of the handset, and the smartphone uses artificial intelligence algorithms that can detect eleven different scenes or objects to improve the quality of its images. The device will automatically switch to the appropriate camera settings once it detects a scene.
The Helio P22 (MT6762) chipset from the semiconductor firm MediaTek powers the Alcatel 5V. This SoC is comprised of an octa-core ARM Cortex A53 64-bit CPU with a maximum frequency of 2.0GHz and the PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The device sports a 6.2-inch display with a resolution of 1500 by 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9. A sheet of Dragontrail glass protects the screen from scratches, and located above the display is a notch that contains the earpiece and the front-facing selfie shooter. The smartphone contains 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal flash storage, which could be expanded using a microSD card with capacities of up to 128GB.
The dual rear camera setup of the Alcatel 5V is equipped with a 12-megapixel main sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary shooter. The presence of a secondary sensor enables the handset to capture images with real-time bokeh, while the main sensor’s 1.25-micrometer pixel size should result in improved low-light images. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, has a single 8-megapixel fixed-focus sensor. The handset contains a 4,000mAh battery, which the manufacturer claims should offer up to 20 hours of talk time. The Alcatel 5V will be available in two color options, which are Spectrum Blue and Spectrum Black, and the handset will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed. Within the last few months, TCL has unveiled a number of Alcatel-branded devices, including the Alcatel 1, the Alcatel 3, and the Alcatel 5.
