A number of older Huawei and Honor devices are now getting Android 8.0 Oreo-based Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 skin. Newer Huawei and Honor devices have been rocking either Android 8.0 Oreo or Android 8.1 Oreo for a while, while the Huawei Mate 8, P9, P9 Plus, Honor 8, V8, Note 8, and Play 6X are getting Android 8.0 Oreo, and with it Emotion UI 8.0 as we speak, as the update started rolling out yesterday.
That being said, it’s worth noting that the update started rolling out in China first, while other markets are expected to get it in the near future, though neither of the two companies released any info regarding that for the time being, we’ll just have to wait and see what will happen. Neither of the aforementioned devices have launched this year, they’ve either arrived in 2017, or a year before that, so it’s nice seeing that Huawei and Honor care about smartphones that are not brand new, and that updates are being delivered. That being said, Emotion UI 8.0 has picked up a ton of features from stock Android 8.0 Oreo, but Huawei added some of its own software features, on top of it. Emotion UI used to look considerably different than stock Android in the past, but Huawei changed that a while back, and now it actually looks like regular Android with a theme applied on it, more or less.
As part of this update, you will get the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, while some improvements to the notification shade are also being added. This update boost security in general, while some power saving options have also been added. Huawei also emphasizes the involvement of AI in Emotion UI, while the floating navigation dock is also something that may interest some of you. Dynamic fonts are a part of Emotion UI 8.0 as well, while you may also enjoy ‘smart split screen’, which is essentially a regular split screen with some additional options included on top of it.
