There’s a new update for Google Duo that has just begun rolling out, which enables multi-device support and tablet support. Allowing you to use Google Duo on multiple devices and having your video chats sync between them. The multi-device support appears to be a server-side change as of right now, where you can open up the app (on a device that already has Duo installed and signed in), and you should see a pop-up screen that will explain multi-device support in Duo. Allowing you to use other smartphones and tablets for the same Duo account. Now, on that second phone, you’ll be able to simply sign in with your Google account – even if you are signed in already, this is just for verification. Then you just click on the “Agree” button and you’re all set.
Tablets are also getting Google Duo finally, and officially. You could use Duo on a tablet before, but you would need to sideload the APK onto your device to get it up and running. It still doesn’t appear to be compatible with Chromebooks for some reason. But it does work perfectly fine on tablets now. And it does work with the multi-device support that Google is rolling out today. The only change you’ll see in the settings, after multi-device support is enabled, is the ability to sign out of Duo on that particular device. Otherwise, the settings are exactly the same.
Google Duo is a video chat app that Google debuted a little over two years ago at Google I/O. Google broke out video chat from texting, with Google Duo and Allo, respectively. The two apps have been a work in progress since they debuted in 2016, but it’s good to see that Duo is finally getting multi-device support. So that now, no matter which device you have in your hands, you can answer that all-important video call, and not have to rush over to your smartphone to pick it up.
