YouTube TV had announced back in March that NBA League Pass would be available to subscribers for the following season – the 2018-19 season. Now with the preseason under two months away, YouTube TV has detailed pricing on its NBA League Pass offering. It’s going to cost $40 per month. Or you can sign up for a half season package at $124 or the full season at $240. YouTube TV won’t be allowing users to sign up to watch a single team via NBA League Pass, that feature apparently is being reserved for the NBA app. So if you only want to watch your team, you’ll have to continue using the NBA app on Android TV or another platform.
With the NBA League Pass coming to YouTube TV, it makes the platform very competitive with Fubo TV which markets itself as the best streaming TV option for sports. YouTube TV now has Fox Soccer Plus, as well as most of the regional sports stations that are owned by either Comcast or Fox, which means that you’ll likely be able to watch whatever sport you want, on YouTube TV. It also means that YouTube TV has a slew of additional options that you can add to your account. That also includes STARZ and SHOWTIME. But HBO is still missing. Though you can simply sign up through HBO’s app and use it separately, similar to Netflix.
The 2018-19 NBA season doesn’t officially get underway until October, starting with four weeks of pre-season and then the regular season starting at the end of October. So YouTube TV is not going to allow users to sign up for NBA League Pass until October, which may seem odd, but since the season is not currently ongoing, it makes little sense to allow customers to sign up and start paying for it, when there’s nothing to see. But come October, you can login to the app and go to Membership to add the NBA League Pass.
