Sony’s aibo is finally coming to the US. The electronics manufacturer is planning to offer a special First Litter Edition of aibo in the US, and this is going to be included with a three-year AI Cloud Plan, as well as a “fun assortment of aibo toys and an individually numbered commemorative dog tag.” This is a very limited edition and it’s the first market that aibo is launching in, after being reintroduced in Japan earlier this year. Sony actually showed off aibo at its CES press conference back in January. It’s a product that the company has actually been working on since 1999, and is the sixth-generation.
aibo is a robot dog that is also pretty smart, thanks to artificial intelligence. With this sixth-generation aibo, Sony has included cutting-edge robotics with a new cloud-connected artificial intelligence engine and some advanced image sensors, which allows aibo to learn and recognize faces. aibo will meet new people and form its personality, through everyday interactions as well. This is going to allow it to remember what actions makes its owner happy. As you might expect, no two aibo companion robots are going to be the same, as it learns from the owner and not from Sony itself. This means that the owner can really have full control over its behavior, personality and knowledge. aibo will also know how to seek out its owner when it wants to play, as it can recognize the owners face and know who exactly to go to.
Starting in September, aibo First Litter Edition with the accessory bundle and three-year AI Cloud Plan will be available for purchase. It’s going to cost $2,899, and Sony is promising to have it delivered in time for the holidays. Sony will be announcing additional details on aibo in the coming weeks. It will also be exhibiting aibo at Sony Square NYC beginning August 24 through October 14. Allowing customers to stop by and check out aibo before it goes on sale, and while it is still available.
