Besides a new pair of ultra-premium headphones, Sony on Tuesday also debuted two wireless speakers in the form of the SRS-XB501G and SRS-XB01, presenting its latest audio products as gadgets specifically designed for parties. The SRS-XB01 is a value-oriented proposition and hence has a recommended price of $34.99, with Sony intending to release it in black, white, blue, and red this October. With the SRS-XB501G being positioned to deliver a much more premium listening experience, it’s also scheduled to ship with a $299.99 price tag this fall, with its global release being pinned for October, though no firm availability dates have yet been attached to either gadget.
With the SRS-XB501G being the standout offering here, Sony treated it with an IP65-certified body, a multicolored light stripe encircling its face, a battery rated for up to 16 hours of usage on a single charge, and built-in support for Google Assistant that effectively makes it a more robust and portable Google Home. As LDAC, Bluetooth, and NFC are both part of the package, high-quality wireless streaming shouldn’t be an issue regardless of the host device, whereas the Sony Music Center app for Android smartphones and tablets will provide users with all granular controls they could possibly need to customize their listening experience, Sony claims. The SRS-XB501G features a handle and a tripod mount, having been designed for versatile party applications and extreme portability.
Much like its price suggests, the SRS-XB01 is an entry-level offering and also sports a built-in microphone that allows it to act as a hands-free speaker. The gadget is equipped with a traditional audio in port, as well as Bluetooth capabilities, meaning it should be versatile enough for anyone not willing to spend more than $50 on a portable speaker. The device is rated for up to six hours of use on a single charge but doesn’t offer any elements resistance like its more expensive sibling, with both being planned for a global release.
