In short: New renders said to be of the OnePlus 6T have now surfaced online showcasing the design of the new smartphone including a clearer look at the new “water drop” (or “teardrop”) notch, as well as highlighting two of the color options that are expected to be available when the phone launches. More accurately, the two finishes with the images showing the Mirror Black version, as well as a Midnight Black option.
Background: The OnePlus 6T is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, and while the company’s second major phone of each year typically includes minor updates, that’s not quite the expectation this time around. As the OnePlus 6T is expected to sport a number of obvious design changes, such as the use of an in-display fingerprint sensor and a less prominent notch. As these images show, these changes will also result in other knock-on changes, such as the earpiece which is now positioned above the front-facing camera – due to the lack of surface space in the portion which actually makes up the notch. While not necessarily on show here, other design changes that have been suggested so far include the upping of the display size to a 6.41-inch level along with a 2340 x 1080 resolution, and the inclusion of a larger battery capacity. Although it’s not all additions with the company already confirming the OnePlus 6T will come without a 3.5mm headphone port included.
Impact: In reality, these images do not necessarily offer too much in terms of new information as the OnePlus 6T has been leaking extensively over the last few weeks. However, these images do paint a clearer picture of the device and what interested buyers can expect from the redesigned notch. As well as a better understanding of how the two finishes will look in general. Besides the design, however, it’s not expected the OnePlus 6 will come with many changes underneath, as it’s here the phone is expected to stick closer to the current OnePlus offering, the OnePlus 6. At present, it’s largely expected the OnePlus 6T will be officially announced this month, and most likely on or around October 17.
