Newly sighted benchmark results suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy S10+ will both sport displays with an aspect ratio of 19:9 which will be even taller than the 18.5:9 Infinity Display panels found on the last two generations of the company’s Android flagships. The two handsets were recently sighted in the HTML5test’s database which indicates they will have different screen resolutions. HTML5test estimates that the Galaxy S10 Lite, also known as the SM-G970F, has a resolution of 1,080 by 2,280 pixels. The benchmark also shows that the Galaxy S10+, i.e. the SM-G975F, offers 3,040 by 1,440 pixels. While there is no available info for the regular Galaxy S10, it is likely that this variant will also feature a display with the same aspect ratio but a different pixel count seeing how it’s rumored to debut with a flat screen instead of a curved-edge one.
Background:Previous reports indicate that the Galaxy S10 lineup will have at least three hardware variants with many differences in terms of specifications. For example, the Galaxy S10 Lite will supposedly have a 5.8-inch display, while the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ are rumored to sport 6.1-inch and 6.4-inch panels, respectively. Furthermore, the Galaxy S10 Lite will include a flat Super AMOLED display, while the more expensive models of the smartphone lineup will have curved panels. Moreover, earlier reports suggest that all the three handset models will feature display holes in the upper-right corners of their screens. These cutouts will accommodate their front-facing cameras, as well as the ambient light and proximity sensors. Furthermore, rumors say that the Galaxy S10 Lite and the Galaxy S10 will have a single display hole, while the Galaxy S10 Plus will have two cutouts to account for its two-sensor camera system on the front.
The Galaxy S10 units that will ship to the United States and China will likely sport the Snapdragon 855 chipset, while those intended for the rest of the world will presumably feature the Exynos 9820 silicon. Rumors indicate that the Galaxy S10 Lite will have 4GB of RAM and a fingerprint sensor placed alongside its right edge, while the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10+ will supposedly feature in-display fingerprint scanners and include 6GB and 8GB of RAM, respectively. Other rumors also mention that there will be a fourth Galaxy S10 model, and unlike the other variants, this device will support 5G connectivity. In addition, the handset will reportedly ship with 12GB of RAM and 1TB of internal flash storage. However, based on some recently leaked model numbers, it seems that this unit will only be available in South Korea and the United States.
Impact: It is likely that Samsung will reveal more information about the Samsung Galaxy S10 lineup at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, although users should expect teasers and promotional materials to start appearing before the devices’ actual launch. However, recent rumors highlight the compromises made by the South Korean tech giant to reduce the production cost of the Galaxy S10 Lite, presumably as it’s now looking to make its ultra-premium offerings more competitive price-wise, likely prompted by weaker-than-expected sales of this year’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9 series.
