Huawei has patented a new case, it seems, and this case seems to be reserved for one of the company’s 2019 flagships, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. This case was patented by the company with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration), and the renders of the case are also available, as you can see down below. Now, the files do not mention that this case belongs to the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, but based on the look of this case, and the huge camera cutout on the back, it’s safe to assume that they’re reserved for the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, as it resembles the cutout on the Mate 20 Pro case, but it’s taller so that it can accomodate more cameras. The provided renders were first published by Mobielkopen, and as you can see, that camera cutout on the back is… huge. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro comes with three cameras and a large LED flash on the back, and cases for that device have much smaller cutouts on the back, which clearly suggests that the Mate 30 Pro will include more than three cameras on the back. Now, there are several possibilities here, the phone may ship with either four or five cameras, as five cameras plus an LED flash would definitely fit in this cutout, on the other hand, Huawei may opt for four cameras, an LED flash, and an additional sensor which will fill in that sixth slot, but the penta camera setup is more likely, which would make the Mate 30 Pro a direct camera competitor to the upcoming Nokia 9 PureView, which is also expected to arrive with five cameras. Now, you will also notice that there are two cutouts on the top of the case, one of them is probably reserved for a noise-canceling microphone, while the other one may be there for an IR blaster, though it’s a bit larger than we’d expect. It is possible that the company is planning to utilize this space in another way, though a 3.5mm headphone jack is probably not a probable solution, as the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro did not sport it, so it’s unlikely that Huawei will bring it back with the Mate 30 Pro.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro, What We Know Thus Far
The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will probably become Huawei’s second flagship in 2019, following the P30 Pro, and the phone is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of the year. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro was announced back in November 2018, so its successor may arrive in that same time period but in 2019. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will probably launch alongside the Mate 30 and quite possibly the Mate 30 X, presuming that the company plans to announce the Mate 20 X successor. It is too early to comment on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro design, as no renders, images or rumors have surfaced thus far, but the phone will probably be made out of metal and glass, just like its predecessor. The Mate 30 Pro will hopefully sport a smaller notch, or will ship without a notch at all, only time will tell. The device will probably ship with the yet-unannounced Kirin 990 processor, which is expected to become official in the second half of this year, and there’s no info on it either. It remains to be seen if the Mate 30 Pro will support 5G, but it’s possible that it will, or that Huawei will introduce a separate version of the phone that will include 5G support. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro will include at least 6GB of RAM, and Leica’s lenses will be a part of the package, same as on the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. You can expect to see a set of thinner bezels on the Mate 30 Pro, compared to the Mate 20 Pro, that’s for sure.
Huawei Mate 30 Pro’s Penta Camera Competitior
The Nokia 9 PureView was expected to arrive way back in September last year, but it was postponed a couple of times along the way. The latest rumors are claiming that the phone will finally launch in January, and that it will ship with five cameras on the back, same as the Mate 30 Pro, though the approach will be considerably different. The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to include PureView technology, which we haven’t seen in a long time, so it remains to be seen how much camera quality will the phone offer. We still do not have any info regarding what sensors will the Huawei Mate 30 Pro or Nokia 9 PureView use, so it remains to be seen what will happen, but it will be interesting to see penta camera smartphones in 2019, and what OEMs can do with those cameras, as camera quality on smartphones has been on the rise for years now, and the Mate 20 Pro is amongst the best camera smartphones in the market, if not the best.
