A new report revealed details about the pricing and color variants of the Moto G7 series in Europe. Earlier rumors suggested there will be four models of the Moto G7 handsets – the Moto G7, G7 Plus, G7 Play, and the G7 Power, with the Play-branded gadget being expected to be the cheapest of the lot. This device will ship with a price tag of €149, which translates to $170 at the current exchange rate, and it will be available in Gold and Blue color variants. On the other hand, the Moto G7 Power will be available in Black and Lilac Purple colors and it will cost €209 ($238). Meanwhile, the Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus are expected to be costlier than the other two handsets. Motorola will sell the Moto G7 in Black and White color options, while the Moto G7 Plus will be available in Red and Blue variants.
The new report also provides additional press renders of the Moto G7 series which seemingly confirms earlier rumors that detailed the design of the upcoming mid-range smartphones. The pricier handsets, the Moto G7 and G7 Plus, will feature a unique design compared to their cheaper counterparts. The Moto G7 and the G7 Plus will feature a waterdrop-shaped notch above the display, and this notch contains the single front-facing camera of the handsets. The bezel below the smartphones’ screen houses the Motorola logo while the right side of the device includes the power button and the volume rocker. The circular camera bump at the back of the smartphone houses the horizontally-arranged dual rear camera setup and the LED flash. Also placed at the smartphone’s rear panel is the fingerprint sensor, while the bottom of the smartphone houses the 3.5-millimeter headphone jack, the USB Type-C port, and the bottom-firing loudspeaker.
Meanwhile, the Moto G7 Play and the Moto G7 Power will feature a longer notch compared to the Moto G7 and the Moto G7 Plus, and this notch houses not only the front-facing camera but also the earpiece and additional sensors. Furthermore, the cheaper smartphones also include a circular camera bump and a fingerprint sensor at the back, although the two handsets only sport a single rear shooter.
Background: Aside from leaks that detail the design of the Moto G7 lineup, recent rumors also supplied information about the specifications of the devices of the smartphones series. According to recent rumors and documents submitted by Motorola to the FCC, both the G7 Play and the G7 Power will sport the Snapdragon 632 chipset. This SoC includes an octa-core Kryo 250 CPU and the Adreno 506 GPU. Moreover, the documents show that the G7 Play will contain a 3,000mAh battery. On the other hand, the G7 Power includes a larger 5,000mAh battery and it will reportedly include a 6.22-inch screen with an HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 19:9. There is limited information available about the specifications of the standard Moto G7 and the Moto G7 Plus, although details about these two devices will likely become available soon.
Impact: Motorola has been conservative with changing its most popular modern smartphone lineup, the new pricing leaks and previous reports about the Moto G7 series suggest. Whether following the age-old adage of not changing what isn’t broken will work for Motorola this year remains to be seen but by most accounts, the Moto G7 lineup will be bringing more of the same, for better or worse.
