According to a new report from South Korea, mass production of the Samsung Galaxy S10 has commenced. Back in December, one source claimed that Samsung already started manufacturing its next Android flagship lineup but according to the newly surfaced information, the previous revelation was either wrong or didn’t pertain to flow production.
Samsung is now understood to have kicked off mass production last Friday, January 25, according to Korean media citing insiders close to the firm’s supply chain. Global mass production supposedly started at the same time but the 4G LTE variants of the Galaxy S10 models are the only ones currently being manufactured. Previous reports actually stated that the company will mass-produce 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 and its foldable smartphone at its Gumi plant in Korea, all its other flagship models will be manufactured overseas (in addition to being produced in Korea).
Now, in order to clear up the confusion regarding the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 model, The Investor’s source mentioned that the 5G variant of the Galaxy S10 is still in the company’s plans, but that its production will start a bit later on, but still in the first half of this year. This actually suggests that initial reports may be accurate, and the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 model may not be announced on February 20, along with the other three variants which we’ll talk about in a second.
To make things even more interesting, the source said that “all three S10 smartphones will house a fingerprint scanner underneath the display”. Now, some of you may assume that he was talking about the Galaxy S10, S10+, and 5G-enabled Galaxy S10, but it seems like the source is referring to the Galaxy S10 E, S10, and S10+, as the 5G-enabled model will come later on, and these three models are expected to drop on February 20.
In any case, the report claims that the “two high-end variants” will feature ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, while the “low-end variant” will utilize an optical fingerprint scanner. All of those fingerprint scanning modules are included under the display, but the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is considerably better, and should be more accurate, as it will not be as affected by grease, sweat, or light.
All the Galaxy S10 models are actually expected to come with pre-installed screen protectors, at least according to what the source told The Investor. You will, of course, be able to remove those screen protectors, as those are your regular screen protectors it seems, nothing fancy.
5G-enabled Galaxy S10 still on the way
Based on this info, it seems like the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 aka Galaxy S10 X will arrive at a later date. Several rumors suggested that it will not launch on February 20, and that seems more and more likely. It was safe to assume that it will go on sale later than the rest of the pack, but it seems like it will have a separate announcement as well… though there’s still a chance that Samsung may mention it in one way or the other on February 20, of course.
The 5G-enabled will be quite similar to all the other Galaxy S10 variant, as per rumors, but it will ship with a ceramic backplate, support 5G (of course), and include 10GB or 12GB of RAM, while the other models will have between 4GB and 8GB RAM if rumors are to be believed. The 5G-enabled model is also expected to include a 6.7-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED, curved display, and more storage than all the other models.
