The Samsung Galaxy A50 will feature a rather large, 6.22-inch display, according to documents submitted by Samsung Electronics to the Federal Communications Commission. The handset has two model numbers, which are SM-A505F/DS and SM-A505F, and these identifiers suggest that the device will be available in both single SIM and dual SIM variants.
Samsung’s documents also say that the Galaxy A50 will have a length of 158.5mm and a width of 74.5mm, while it will also include a non-removable battery, as expected. The documents also show that the handset can connect to 2G GSM, 3G WCDMA, and 4G LTE networks. Furthermore, the device will support Bluetooth Low Energy, and it is compatible with 802.11ac Wi-Fi networks that run on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The handset also features ANT+ technology, a protocol that allows the handset to communicate with health and vehicle sensors and appliances.
The Galaxy A50 is one of the upcoming mid-range smartphone offerings of Samsung, and the device maker will likely launch the handset as part of the revamped Galaxy A lineup. Earlier benchmark result suggests that the Galaxy A50 will sport the Exynos 9610 chipset. This SoC is the first mid-range processor fabricated using the 10nm process node technology and it features a quad-core ARM Cortex A73 CPU cluster clocked at up to 2.3GHz, a quad-core Cortex A53 CPU cluster running at a maximum clock speed of 1.6GHz, and the ARM Mali-G72 GPU. Aside from improved performance and power efficiency, this chipset also includes better facial recognition and depth sensing technologies as well as enhanced video capture capabilities, with the SoC capable of recording 1080p slow motion video at frame rates of 480fps.
Recent leaks also show that the Galaxy A50 will use Samsung’s Infinity-V display. The South Korean tech giant already used this design with its entry-level Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 devices, and it seems that the company will apply the same design to its mid-range devices. Recent reports and component leaks suggest that the tech firm will also include an under-display fingerprint sensor with the Galaxy A50, while the waterdrop notch will house a single front-facing camera equipped with a 24-megapixel sensor.
Earlier leaks claimed that the Galaxy A50 will include 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. Meanwhile, the rear panel of the device will reportedly have a triple rear camera setup, and Samsung may include a time-of-flight sensor. The South Korean tech giant will also incorporate a 4,000mAh battery with the device, and the company will offer several color variants of the handset, namely blue, black, pink, silver, and white.
Aside from the Galaxy A50, Samsung will also launch several other handsets as part of the revised Galaxy A series. These devices include the Galaxy A40, which may target the lower mid-range segment of the smartphone market and feature an Exynos 7885 chipset, and the Galaxy A90, which could feature a pop-up camera like the one included with the Vivo NEX. More details about the mid-range handset will likely become available within the next few weeks, including the actual pricing and availability of the handset.
