Ice Blue variants of the Galaxy S10+ and Galaxy Buds left little to the imagination as part of their latest sighting, with the duo starring in a newly leaked render which is believed to have been obtained directly from Samsung’s servers.
Originally obtained by industry insider Roland Quandt, the image shown above seems to be featuring the SM-G975F, an international, Exynos 9820-powered variant of the largest member of the upcoming Android flagship family, as suggested by its triple-camera setup and a lack of any kind of branding on the lower portion of its rear plate which usually hosts device names when it comes to units manufactured for the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China. The latter group uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, with the Snapdragon 855 being the silicon that will almost certainly find its way to the SM-G975U and other iterations of Samsung’s latest high-end handset formula.
Full of energy
While several credible rumors and legitimate product certifications already delivered enough proof of two-way wireless charging being part of the Galaxy S10+ package, the latest promo is yet another addition to that list. The device is clearly depicted as charging the Galaxy Buds, Samsung’s incoming wearable believed to be succeeding the Gear IconX (2018) earbuds. The rest of the Galaxy S10 range should offer the same reverse wireless charging as well. The South Korean electronics juggernaut will reportedly advertise the technology as “Powershare” in its home country, though it remains to be seen whether the same branding ends up being used in the West.
As for its practical use, the latest leak is a fairly good indication of how it works and is in line with previous rumors; after interacting with a simple software switch, all users will have to do to turn a Galaxy S10-series device into a charger will be to place an eligible gadget on top of the Android phablet. The technology will still be based on the Qi standard Samsung has been perfecting and optimizing for its products for at least five years now.
While the Ice Blue finish was already seen in the context of the Galaxy S10 line, it appears the truly wireless earphones Samsung is planning to launch in the coming days will also arrive in at least one extra flavor besides black, as indicated by the very same leak. The c0lor itself initially debuted as Samsung’s first major refresh of the Galaxy S9 series last year but was never made available outside of China.
Don’t be first, be the best
While Samsung has been pioneering mobile tech for about a decade now and continues to do so, it isn’t as aggressive in its efforts to launch industry-firsts as it once was and is much more focused on consistency nowadays. The two-way wireless charging support is a perfect example of that strategy as the firm wasn’t the one that turned it into a consumer-grade product; that honor would instead go to Huawei that managed to commercialize the feature last fall with the Mate 20 Pro.
Truth be told, while critically acclaimed as a whole, the Mate 20 Pro hardly received positive feedback regarding that particular functionality, though Samsung now appears convinced it got it right with the super-ambitious Galaxy S10, which it deems more important than getting it first.
The firm has been pursuing what’s essentially an identical philosophy with foldable handsets but is still expected to beat Huawei to the punch of unveiling one, if only by a couple of days. B0th companies are scheduled to appear at Mobile World Congress 2019 which is starting on February 25 in Barcelona, Spain.
