A new set of renders seemingly showcasing the Samsung Galaxy Sport and its fresh minimalist design emerged today via TigersMobile, indicating that the wearable will indeed be offered in multiple color choices. The same design only in the color gray was revealed in another leaked render earlier this week, but the new image indicates that the OEM’s upcoming wearable will also be offered in black, dark teal, and rose gold.
The same design philosophy is shown in the new renders where the smartwatch’s case and buckle share the same color and seemingly the same choice of materials. Likewise, the silicon strap matches the color of the metal for a uniform look, and of course, the display is once again circular and lacking a rotating bezel. The new renders also reveal three new watch faces.
According to the source, the Samsung Galaxy Sport will be the OEM’s first smartwatch model to include Bixby Reminders. It will also allow users to perform mobile payments via NFC, and much like the ongoing Galaxy Watch, it should sport 4GB of RAM. But as yet, it’s unclear whether Samsung has developed a new low-energy chipset for the upcoming wearable. The Samsung Galaxy Watch is fueled by the Exynos 9110 silicon featuring two CPU cores clocked at up to 1.15GHz, whereas the Gear Sport that preceded it was equipped with the Exynos 7270 chipset.
Likewise, when the Samsung Galaxy Watch launched last year it arrived with Tizen OS 4.0, up from version 3.0 featured by the Gear Sport. Having said that and given the lack of a rotating bezel for the upcoming model, it’s almost certain that Samsung has updated Tizen OS to include new features and especially new input methods. The two physical side buttons will surely be used for interacting with the UI, but new gestures may have also been added to take advantage of or compensate for the bezel-free look.
Given these fundamental changes in design, it will also be interesting to see if the upcoming model will weight considerably less than the Galaxy Watch, which tips the scale at around 49 grams and 63 grams, depending on size. Either way, it’s expected to retain waterproof capabilities and Super AMOLED screen technology, fueling the Always-on display feature.
The Samsung Galaxy Sport should be introduced to prospective buyers on stage at the OEM’s next big Unpacked event scheduled to take place on February 20, when the Samsung Galaxy S10 series will debut. This has yet to be officially confirmed by the tech giant but the previous smartwatch models have been accompanied by a flagship phone at previous Unpacked conferences, and there’s no reason to believe Samsung won’t do the same with its new smartwatch generation.
It is believed that the Galaxy Sport will be released in two main flavors, one of which will support LTE while the other will be limited to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. But it remains to be seen if the OEM will offer the wearable in two different sizes, much like it did with the Samsung Galaxy Watch which was made available with a 1.2-inch and 1.3-inch circular display.
