Amazon’s personal assistant has gotten pretty useful over the years, however, it does have a lot of false positives. Anytime someone says “Alexa” or something close to it, it’s going to wake up and listen for a command. That’s not all that useful a lot of the time. Luckily, you can do something about that (to an extent). You can set up Voice Profiles.
With Voice Profiles, Alexa will know who is talking to it. So if you have multiple people in your home using the smart speaker, you’re going to be able to have multiple users as well. For instance, if you are talking to Alexa and want to have her message someone, you’ll want it to use your contacts and not your significant other’s contacts.
How To Setup Voice Profiles In The Alexa App
First things first, you’re going to need to download the Amazon Alexa app from the Play Store. Make sure to login to your account as well.
From there, swipe in from the left side to open the menu. Tap on Settings.
Now tap on Alexa Account which will be near the top of the page.
Then tap on Recognized Voices.
Tap Your Voice.
This screen will show you what your voice will be used for, then tap on Begin.
The app will tell you to give a command to Alexa within the next five minutes, so that it can actually learn your voice. So just say “Alexa, learn my voice” then follow her instructions, and you’ll be all set.
You can repeat this as many times as you want, for each additional person in your home. But remember, you do need to login to your account on their phone.
How To Setup Voice Profiles Via an Amazon Echo
Setting up Voice Profiles with an Echo is actually easier than using the app. Simple say “Alexa, learn my voice” to get started.
After that command is given, Alexa will ask who you are, this is to make sure that it is pairing your voice with the appropriate user. You’ll want to say No until Alexa comes to the name that is actually yours then say Yes.
Now, Alexa is going to have you repeat ten phrases, which will help her learn your voice.
Afterwards, you are all done, and Alexa has learned your voice.

Alexa’s Voice Profiles are a pretty sweet way to get Alexa to learn your voice, pretty easily. Especially if you are using Alexa with many other people in your home. Google Assistant already does this, but it is done through your phone, so Google Assistant already knows who it is talking too. This should take care of any confusion that Alexa may have when multiple people are talking to it.
As mentioned, you may just want to tell Alexa to learn your voice, instead of doing it through the app, seeing as you still need to use an Echo when you do it with the app. It’s simpler, and easier with an Echo.
