Huawei announced its newest smartphones today, the P30 and P30 Pro. While they won’t be coming to the US, they will be available in Europe, with the P30 priced at €799 and the P30 Pro at €999.
Both smartphones are available in Europe beginning today, March 26.
The Huawei P30 comes in one variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. While the P30 Pro comes in three models all with 8GB of RAM. The 128GB storage model is priced at €999, with 256GB going for €1099 and the 512GB model topping the spectrum at €1249. That puts these above the prices of the new Samsung Galaxy S10 models and even above the latest iPhones. Huawei is really betting that people are going to want the crazy cameras that are included on both of these phones.
Huawei has equipped the P30 with a 6.1-inch full HD+ OLED display, the Kirin 980 chipset, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This is powered by a 3650mAh capacity battery. There are three rear-facing cameras on the P30. That includes a 40-megapixel main sensor with a f/1.8 aperture. There is also a 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor and finally a 8-megapixel telephoto sensor. This also comes with 3X Optical Zoom, 5X Hybrid Zoom and 30X Digital Zoom.
The Huawei P30 Pro has most of the same internals, though RAM is bumped up to 8GB. The display is a 6.47-inch full HD+ OLED. It also has the same 40-megapixel main sensor, a 20-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor and a 8-megapixel periscope lens. This lens allows the P30 Pro zoom in even more. With 5X Optical Zoom, 10X Hybrid Zoom and 50X Digital Zoom. The P30 Pro also has a fourth camera, the Time of Flight or ToF sensor, for getting even better Bokeh effects. It also has a larger battery at 4200mAh.
Both of these smartphones also have a 32-megapixel front-facing sensor with Android 9 Pie running on-board.
The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are aiming to be the smartphone cameras to beat in 2019, and at these prices, they better be the best out there right now. Huawei has done a really good job at making its cameras some of the best in the industry in the past few years, and considering it has been working tightly with Leica, that is not a huge surprise. The P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro that the company announced last year, are still the highest-rated cameras on DxOMark right now, beating out the Galaxy S10+ that launched earlier this month.
As usual, the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will not be making their way stateside. That should not come as a huge surprise, given the recent news of Huawei’s trouble in the US. Not to mention the fact that Huawei is actually suing the US right now, for all of the trouble it’s been put through recently. The two phones will likely end up on Amazon at some point, through third-party sellers, which Huawei will honor its warranties on those devices. But officially, neither the P30 or P30 Pro will be available in the US.
