Following Facebook’s Messenger app, which received dark mode quite recently, Viber has also rolled out such an option for Android. The company has announced this via its official Twitter handle, boasting battery-saving features of the dark mode. Viber also mentioned that this option will protect your eyes in the dark, and that it will prevent you from disturbing other people who are trying to sleep in the room. These are all obvious benefits of every dark mode, though.
It is worth noting that Viber’s dark theme is not exactly pure AMOLED black, it’s a dark charcoal color, which some people may actually prefer. Facebook, on the other hand, actually rolled out a pure AMOLED black dark theme, and as some of you already know, in order to activate it, you actually need to send out a moon emoji to one of your contacts, after which an option will pop up in the settings. This will probably change with the final build of the dark mode, as Messenger’s dark mode is still in beta.
In order to activate dark mode in Viber, you do not need to do anything of the sort, as the option is visible in settings, and is not in beta or anything of the sort. All you need to do is make sure that your Viber application is updated, as you will not be able to access this feature if you’re not on the latest version, we’ve actually tried doing that.

Dark Mode All The Things
Dark Mode has managed to become quite popular on Android last year, as even Google started releasing dark mode to some of its applications. It is worth noting that Google is even planning to release a system-wide dark theme for upcoming Android Q operating system, and we may see it in action really soon, as the first developer preview of Android Q may arrive sometime this month.
Google realized that dark mode helps with battery life on devices that feature OLED displays, and the company even conducted a research last year in order to share some exact numbers with Android users. The company already released dark mode for its Messages, YouTube, Phone, Contacts, and some other apps. The company is also testing dark mode in Chrome Canary, so you can expect to see such an option in the stable Chrome app soon.
Google did not confirm whether dark mode will be coming to Gmail, but that change is probably one of the most request ones. Considering that a system-wide dark mode is coming with Android Q, and that the company already released such a theme for a number of its popular apps, Gmail will probably get it down the road as well.
Facebook’s Messenger and Viber are the latest two apps to receive dark mode, and even though nothing has been confirmed just yet, WhatsApp may get it in the near future as well, following in Messenger’s and Viber’s footsteps… we’ll see what will happen.
