The Huawei P30 Pro is now finally reaching consumers after what seemed to be an endless stream of leaks and rumors carried over the past several months, but there’s still room for the device to make the headlines, albeit for different reasons. Reviews and comparisons are coming in and even a teardown video featuring the flagship emerged on YouTube this week, offering viewers not only a closer look at what makes the device tick but also a sneak peek of the methods used by Huawei’s Service Stores to disassemble and repair smartphones.
Unlike most other teardown videos that usually pop up on the Internet following a new smartphone release, the latest video published by TechMagnet doubles as a quick tour of the Huawei Service Store in Viena. There, some of the equipment used for diagnosing, disassembling and reassembling devices is seen in action. This includes a special hot plate designed to soften the glue keeping the Huawei P30 Pro’s glass back cover into place, but we’ve seen similar results being achieved in a less elegant manner using a heat gun.
The rest of the disassembly process looks very familiar. The Service Store’s engineer uses suction cups and thin, plastic prying tools to lift the back cover from the device. Once done, the first component that sticks out is the wireless charging coil covering the 4,100mAh battery, but perhaps the most unusual piece of hardware is the telescopic camera.
Huawei has been at the forefront of mobile photography for roughly a year now thanks to the Huawei P20 Pro, and the direct sequel launched last month only improves upon the P20 Pro’s greatness with the inclusion of a periscope-style camera capable of 5x optical zoom. This periscopic package is the largest of all the cameras employed by the P30 Pro, including the Time-of-Flight sensor.
With the components checked and captured on film, it’s time for reassembly. The original glue is meticulously cleaned in its entirety to make way for fresh adhesive, and again the heat plate comes into use before the device is being placed in a special press with the purpose of sealing and proper waterproofing.
There are no bend or scratch tests this time around so prospective buyers will have to wait a bit longer if they wish to learn more about the smartphone’s durability. YouTubers like JerryRigEverything are likely to pick up the device soon and torture the hardware in a quest to determine exactly how resilient it is in extremely harsh conditions.
In the meantime, the main purpose of the video at hand is to give a quick look at what resides inside the Huawei P30 Pro and how the OEM’s engineers go about repairing broken units. But according to the store manager, no complaints have been filed by customers thus far and the Huawei P30 Pro has yet to reach the Service Store for an actual hardware problem that needs addressing. Of course, this is not necessarily the case for every Huawei repair shop and retailer around the globe but based on the information so far, the Huawei P30 Pro seems to be a well-equipped and well-constructed device.
