OnePlus 6, 6T Still Getting Better, More Secure

A new beta update has started rolling out to both the OnePlus 6 and 6T. This is essentially the same update that arrived to the OnePlus 5 and 5T quite recently, though it comes with a different number, of course, but the point is, the changelog is identical.

This update is rolling out to the OnePlus 6 as an Open Beta 16, while it’s landing on the OnePlus 6T as Open Beta 8. The update has started rolling out to those of you who have OnePlus’ official beta software installed, and you should receive it OTA (over the air) if you haven’t already.

Those of you who do not will have to wait for a stable build to become available, or you can flash OnePlus’ beta software, though do keep in mind that there’s always a chance you’ll brick your phone if you don’t know what you’re doing. If you want to go through with it, hit the link in the first paragraph for detailed instructions on how to do it.

That being said this update brings the Android security patch for April 2019 to both devices, while it also improves network speed display. Speaking of System changes, this update will also bring support for shortcuts to access corresponding interfaces in Quick Settings.

Those of you who have been waiting for Quick Reply function to become available even when you’re in landscape mode are in luck as well, as this update brings just that, you can now reply to messages while in landscape mode straight from your notification shade.

This update will also bring some changes to the OnePlus Launcher that comes as a default on OxygenOS. OnePlus has opted to add a tutorial in “Shelf”, while a parking location feature has also been added here, for those of you who tend to forget where you parked. On top of everything, this update brings an improved page indicator to mirror your current icon pack.

The OnePlus 6 and 6T had both been released last year, in 2018, and both of them have seen quite a few updates up until this point, that goes for both Open Beta and stable updates. OnePlus did not release a stable update for either phone for a couple of months now, and users are eagerly waiting for that to change. Most of these features will probably be included in the next stable update, if not all of them.

There is a logical explanation why a stable update did not hit either phone for that amount of time, both of them are extremely stable at this point, and OnePlus has been focusing on the upcoming OnePlus 7 series of devices which is expected to arrive next month. If rumors and leaks are accurate, OnePlus will actually release several flagships this time around, the OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, and OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

A recent leak suggested that the OnePlus 7 will include a flat display and actually resemble the OnePlus 6T quite a bit in terms of the design, while the OnePlus 7 Pro is expected to include a pop-up camera and a curved display, not to mention that it will be larger than the OnePlus 7. The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G is expected to be identical to the OnePlus 7 Pro in every regard except for its connectivity options, that phone will support 5G, and probably be quite a bit more expensive.
