The OnePlus 7 is one of the most anticipated flagship handsets of this year, and Ishan Agarwal, a well-known tipster, has just confirmed that the phone will launch in May. This was actually an expected launch window for the OnePlus 7, as the OnePlus 6 arrived back in May last year as well. In addition to its release date, Mr. Agarwal also shared an image which contains “Go Beyond Speed” tagline, though he did not that the tagline may change by the time the phone launches.
It’s unclear whether the company at any point considered launching the device in April or even beforehand seeing how virtually every single one of its rivals will already be in stores for weeks by then, though that may be exactly what it’s going for – debut its latest high-end Android phablet without immediate pressure from competitors.
If you take a closer look at the shared image, you will also notice that it doesn’t say the “OnePlus 7”, but the “OnePlus 7 Pro”. This would not make too much sense a day ago, but a recent leak did suggest that we may see up to three OnePlus 7 phones this year, and one of the two “Pro” variants will be the company’s first 5G-enabled smartphone, according to that leak.
If that info is accurate, OnePlus will introduce the OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, and 7 Pro 5G, which will carry GM1901,03,05 ; GM1911,13,15,17 ; GM1920 model numbers, respectively. Now, the alleged OnePlus 7 Pro also leaked yesterday, showing extremely thin bezels, almost non-existing “chin”, and a curved display. That leak also suggests that the volume up / down buttons will be placed on the left, while the power / lock button and alert slider will sit on the right, which makes sense, as that was the configuration on the OnePlus 6(T) as well.
Yesterday’s leak also shared some of the OnePlus 7 Pro specifications, and if accurate, the device will feature a 6.67-inch Super Optic display (an OLED panel), while it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor by Qualcomm. The variant that surfaced features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while it comes with Android 9 Pie out of the box. That particular model sported a GM1915 model number, which suggests that it is a regular OnePlus 7 Pro variant, not a 5G one.
If all of this info turns out to be accurate, it will be interesting to see what will the difference be between the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, as the 7 Pro 5G will probably be identical to the 7 Pro, but sport 5G connectivity. The OnePlus 7 is rumored to sport a 6.5-inch display, so its panel may be a bit smaller than the one on the OnePlus 7 Pro, but the regular model may also include a flat display with curved glass on top of it, so the two phones may end up sporting similar width.
A 6GB RAM variant of the OnePlus 7 will probably also be a thing, and the regular OnePlus 7 will almost certainly sport such a variant, maybe even the Pro model, we’ll have to wait and see. In any case, if OnePlus ends up releasing two or three flagship devices this year, that will be a first for the company.
Ever since the OnePlus One dropped, OnePlus has been releasing one flagship per cycle, at one point, the company switched to two a year, but it never announced more than one at a time. The OnePlus X did launch next to the OnePlus 2, but the OnePlus X was a mid-range smartphone, so it doesn’t count.
The OnePlus 7 will be made out of metal and glass, and it’s safe to assume that the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro will be similar in terms of both size and design, while both will include a new version of OxygenOS on top of Android 9 Pie. Both devices are expected to include large batteries, and the company’s Warp Charge fast charging.
