The OPPO Reno is finally official, and it comes in two variants, as expected. OPPO introduced the Reno smartphone series in China, and one of these two phones is actually the company’s brand new flagship. The OPPO Reno and Reno 10x Zoom Edition have been announced by the company.
These two smartphones are actually quite similar in terms of the design the only difference comes to the camera setup on the back, as the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition features a third camera on the back which allows for that hybrid 10x optical zoom (similar to the Huawei P30 Pro), and that is something the regular model does not have.
Both phones include extremely thin bezels, and an almost non-existent “chin”. Both devices feature rounded display corners, while both are made out of metal and glass, and feature curved back sides. A power / lock key can be found on the right-hand side of these two phones, while the volume rocker buttons are placed on the left.
The regular OPPO Reno handset includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the flagship model does not, which is quite interesting. Two SIM card slots are available in both phones as well, while both devices ship with Android 9 Pie with OPPO’s ColorOS 6.0 on top of them. We’ll tackle specifications for each of these phones separately, even though there are some additional similarities in that department.
OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition
This is the company’s brand new flagship, and it is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 64-bit octa-core processor, one of the most powerful mobile chips out there. The device features a 6.6-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) AMOLED display, and it includes 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. The 6GB RAM model comes in both storage options, while the 8GB RAM variant is available with only 256GB of storage.
A 4,065mAh non-removable battery is also included in this package, and it supports OPPO’s VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology. The phone includes an in-display fingerprint scanner, and it supports Hi-Res audio, Dolby Atmos, and has three microphones. Bluetooth 5 is also supported here, while the phone measures 162 x 77.2 x 9.3mm. An in-display fingerprint scanner is included here as well.
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition’s camera are probably one of the most interesting aspects of this device, perhaps even the most interesting one. On the back, the phone includes 48-megapixel (Sony’s IMX586 sensor, f/1.7 aperture, 0.8um pixel size, OIS, PDAF, CAF, Laser Autofocus), 13-megapixel (periscope telephoto lens, f/3.0 aperture, 10x hybrid optical zoom), and 8-megapixel (120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens, f/2.2 aperture) cameras. A 16-megapixel camera is included on the front side of this device, and an LED flash lies on the front of the phone as well. Speaking of its front camera, that camera is hidden until you switch to it in the camera app, then it pops up, and it has a triangle shape, as leaks have been suggesting.
The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition comes in Black and Green color variants, while its three variants are priced at 3,999 Yuan ($595), 4,499 Yuan ($669), and 4,799 Yuan ($714). The phone will go on sale in China mid-May, and OPPO confirmed that a 5G-enabled variant is coming next month.
OPPO Reno (standard edition)
This is the company’s mid-range offering, and it is fueled by the Snapdragon 710 64-bit octa-core processor. That is one of Qualcomm’s most powerful mid-range processors, and it is clocked at 2.2GHz in this case.
The phone features a 6.4-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) AMOLED display, and it comes with 6GB / 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of storage. RAM and storage setups are identical to the flagship variant, so it comes in three different models, essentially.
A 3,765mAh battery is included in this package, and it also supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging. On the back of the phone, you will find 48-megapixel (Sony’s IMX586 sensor, 0.8um pixel size, f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, CAF) and 5-megapixel (f/2.4 aperture) cameras. A 16-megapixel (f/2.0 aperture, 79.3-degree wide-angle lens) camera acts as its front-facing camera, the pop-up mechanism is identical as on the flagship model.
This phone has an in-display fingerprint scanner, just like the 10x Zoom Edition, while the phone supports Hi-Res audio and Dolby Atmos. The device measures 156.6 x 74.3 x 9mm, while it weighs 185 grams.
The OPPO Reno (standard edition) comes in Green, Pink, Purple, and Black color variants. Its 6GB RAM model with 128GB of storage is priced at 2,999 Yuan ($446), 6GB RAM model with 256GB of storage goes for 3,299 Yuan ($491), and the most expensive model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage costs 3,599 Yuan ($535). This variant is already available for pre-order in China, and it will go on sale on April 16. It is worth noting that the OPPO Reno will be announced for global markets on April 24 in Zurich.
