Shiny New "Almond" Render Shows Final OnePlus 7 Pro Color

Yet another press render has now cropped up online the upcoming flagship killer OnePlus 7 Pro, this time in a tan-tinged hue called “Almond,” shared to social media by WinFuture’s Roland Quandt. The last of the handset’s expected variants, Almond is a suitable name for what might be the most interesting color the device will be available in. As implied, that’s an almost rose gold tone that’s shifted toward a light brown rather than red.

As with previous leaks, the renders show that the gadget will feature darker bands that are presumably for the radios but that those only exist in the color-matched metal edge rather than running across the entire back panel. On the rear panel, three cameras are placed in a vertical orientation at the top and just above an LED flash.

The rear snapper is expected to be comprised of a 48-megapixel (f/1.6 aperture, OIS) primary sensor. The two accompanying sensors will be an 8-megapixel (f/2.2 aperture, OIS, telephoto) and 16-megapixel (ultrawide-angle lens, PDAF) camera, respectively.

The 16-megapixel selfie camera is set on a mechanical apparatus that extends from the top edge, leaving almost the entire front of the device for its touchscreen. An optical in-display fingerprint scanner is expected under that 6.67-inch QHD+ Fluid AMOLED panel, also expected feature a 90Hz refresh rate.

A textured power button is clearly visible on one edge alongside another button while volume keys in the form of a rocker are on the opposing side.

Other colors and details

Prior to the latest leak, the OnePlus 7 Pro had shown up in at least one set of press renders in two other color configurations that were arguably much more mundane. Despite the interesting sounding names —  namely, Nebula Blue and Mirror Gray — those were effectively just a near-black gray and dark blue coloration. The stately but not necessarily groundbreaking colors are expected to launch alongside the Almond variant.

Other details have already leaked out surrounding the premium-priced OnePlus flagship too, including a 5G variant that is expected to arrive but which may not arrive at the same time.

Driving an Android 9 Pie-based version of OxygenOS, the OnePlus 7 Pro is predicted to ship with a Qualcomm-built 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 855 SoC backed by a combination of 6GB RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.0 storage. 8GB and 12GB RAM configurations are said to be made available too, with a more respectable 256GB of storage. UFS 3.0 storage should arrive on Samsung’s Galaxy Fold later on and will allow nearly double the rate of storage compared to currently-used components.

Behind those components, a 4,000mAh capacity battery is expected with 30W “Warp Charge” fast charging on board.

A glaring expected flaw

None of that means this gadget will be without flaw in the eyes of many users, however. Rumors have indicated that it won’t feature a headphone jack but despite that fact, it also won’t ship with an IP rating for ruggedization, according to leaks.

That means that even though OnePlus is limiting the number of openings, it won’t be a water or dust-resistant handset — likely owing to the inclusion of a sliding camera mechanism to avoid notches and display holes.

It will also be more expensive than previous devices from the company, at well over $150 extra cost expected.

Regardless, the OnePlus 7 Pro is expected to present as much a challenge to established norms in the industry as any of its predecessors when it launches on May 14.
