First Redmi Flagship Gets May Release Date

Redmi’s very first flagship, the Redmi K20, will be announced on May 28. The company has officially confirmed that via its Weibo (Chinese social media) account, and that name for the device had been confirmed quite recently.

Truth be said, that’s a rather odd name for a flagship phone, especially the very first phone for the series. Do note that the “K” allegedly stands for “Killer”, and this phone is expected to offer great specs and design for a very affordable price. We’re not sure why the number “20”, but we may find out during the event.

This device will sport no notch, or a display camera hole, instead, Redmi opted to include a pop-up camera. The company actually shared a poster of the phone’s front-facing pop-up camera not long ago, and that camera mechanism has been tested 300,000 times to prove its durability.

The company’s President, Lu Weibing, recently confirmed that the phone will include a 3.5mm headphone jack, unlike most flagships out there, and that the device’s internal codename is “The Demon King”.

This phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 855, while its main sensor on the back will be a 48-megapixel unit, the same one that HONOR, OnePlus, and ASUS already utilized on their flagship smartphones.

The Redmi K20 will be made out of metal and glass, and the device is expected to offer an extremely high screen-to-body ratio, with a truly minimal “chin”. A flat display will be included on the phone, while its back side will be curved.

The phone is said to feature a 6.39-inch fullHD+ OLED display, and up to 8GB of RAM. 6GB and 8GB RAM variants have been rumored, and those are probably the only two RAM models that we’ll get, while they are expected to ship with 128GB and 256GB of internal storage.

In addition to a 48-megapixel camera on the back, the Redmi K20 is expected to include an 8-megapixel telephoto unit, and a 13-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide angle lens. Its camera on the front side will be a 20-megapixel unit, while a sixth-generation in-display fingerprint scanner is expected to sit on the front, an optical in-display fingerprint scanner.

A 4,000mAh battery is also rumored, and the same can be said for 27W fast wired charging. The phone probably will not include wireless charging, nor reverse wireless charging, but who knows, Redmi may surprise us in the end.

Android 9 Pie will come pre-installed on Redmi’s upcoming flagship, while Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 skin will be included on top of it. That is pretty much all the info that we have at the moment, as far as this flagship handset is concerned.

The Redmi K20 is expected to be on offer with a killer price tag, to compete with the likes of the HONOR 20 series, the OnePlus 7 series, and pretty much all other flagships. Redmi will try to cater to people who do not want to break the bank while getting a phone, and yet want to purchase a proper flagship.

The company may also introduce the Redmi K20 Pro, as that phone was also rumored, but it hasn’t been mentioned for a while now. Redmi may actually refer to the 8GB RAM variant of the phone as a “Pro” model, we’ll see.
