The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro rumors have been surfacing online for quite some time now. Most of those rumors suggested that the two Mate 30 series devices will become official in October, but according to a new report, that may not be the case.
This new report comes from Hi-tech.mail, and according to their info, the Mate 30 series will arrive on September 19. The source claims to have obtained this information from one of Huawei’s execs, Wang Chenglu, the President of Software Development at the company.
Both of those smartphones will ship with Android Q, with Huawei’s own skin on top of it. Huawei recently introduced Emotion UI (EMUI) 10, the latest version of its Android skin. The company shared a list of phones which will get the update, but did not mention the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro specifically, as neither of those two phones got announced yet.
Many rumors suggested that the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro may ship with HarmonyOS, but that won’t be the case, it seems. HarmonyOS, for those of you who are wondering, is Huawei’s very own OS. That operating system got announced a couple of days ago, and it is based on a custom microkernel, similar to Google’s Fuchsia OS.
The HONOR Vision is the first device to come equipped with HarmonyOS, and that is a smart screen. Huawei said that smart screens will get the OS first, then some wearables and cars, but it did not mention smartphones. Huawei still seems to be committed to Android, despite issues that it had with the US recently.
In any case, everything is pointing towards Android Q for the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. A recent rumor suggested that the Mate 30 Lite may ship with HarmonyOS, and become the first phone to do so, but that info is probably false. As already mentioned, Huawei did not mention anything regarding smartphones and HarmonyOS, and it’s highly unlikely we’ll see a HarmonyOS-powered phone this year.
The alleged Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro did leak several times now, but it remains to be seen how accurate those leaks are. If they are to be believed, though, the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro may feature a rather wide display notch. On top of that, the phone is rumored to include three cameras on the back, placed in a circular camera setup.
The Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will be made out of metal and glass, almost certainly. Both devices will feature curved back sides, and chances are that at least one of them will sport a curved display. In fact, one rumor suggested that the Mate 30 Pro will have an extremely curved display, unlike anything we’ve seen thus far. Take that info with a grain of salt, though, it’s still too early say.
Both the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will be fueled by the Kirin 990, Huawei’s upcoming flagship processor. That chip is expected to become official before the Mate 30 series announcement, but there’s also a chance that Huawei may announced it alongside the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro.
