The Motorola One Zoom Won't Be An Android One Smartphone

Despite being part of the Motorola One lineup, the One Zoom will reportedly not be part of the Android One family.

This is a bit of a surprise, considering all of the other smartphones in the one lineup from Motorola, have run on Android One. But, Motorola has a few other tricks up its sleeves for this smartphone.

According to Roland Quandt of WinFuture, the Motorola One Zoom will be a mid-range smartphone. Complete with the Snapdragon 675 chipset inside. It will also have 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage – at least in Europe. It could have another higher-end variant (possibly with more RAM) when it comes to the US (if it comes to the US).

The Motorola One Zoom is going to sport a quad-camera setup on the back, and it’ll have an optically stabilized 48-megapixel Quad Bayer sensor. We don’t know a ton about this camera setup just yet, but knowing how good that 48-megapixel sensor has been on other smartphones, it should be pretty decent on the One Zoom.

Motorola has been adding some Alexa integration into its smartphones in recent years, and the One Zoom will be no different. According to Quandt, there will be some “special Alexa integration”. He didn’t say much about that part of the phone, other than the fact that the Moto logo on the back will light up. Possibly light up similar to an Echo smart speaker.

Motorola is expected to announce the One Zoom at IFA next month in Berlin. It is also expected to announce the One Action and One Macro at the trade show. IFA will be taking place from September 6 to the 11 in Berlin. IFA is where we will see a number of newer smartphones that manufacturers want to get on store shelves for the fall and upcoming holiday season. So it won’t be surprising to see Motorola join the ranks with a trio of new smartphones. The Motorola One lineup has been doing pretty decently for the company. Although bringing the One Zoom without Android One is going to be a bit questionable. Not to mention a bit confusing.

However, Android One isn’t a huge deal for Motorola smartphones. Remember that Motorola does use a pretty stock version of Android on its phones already. With just a few additions included with its features. However, Android One would make it easier and faster to update their phones. So it’s still a somewhat of a big deal.

The Motorola One Zoom will be available in Europe for around €399 (that’s about $446 USD). And it’ll be available in (at least) two colors. That includes black and purple. It’s currently unclear whether the One Zoom will be making its way over to the US yet or not. Some of the One smartphones have launched in the US, but the majority have not. Android One and unlocked smartphones do tend to sell better in Europe than the US. So it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see this only come to Europe.
