MIUI 11 Offers More Modern Design, Dynamic Font Scaling & More

Xiaomi hosted a press conference in China today, and announced quite a few products during it. In addition to announcing the Mi Full Screen TV Pro series TVs, the Mi 9 Pro 5G and Mi MIX Alpha (5G) handsets have also been announced. We’ve already covered all of those announcements, and it’s time to take a look at MIUI 11.

MIUI 11 is the newest version of Xiaomi’s Android skin. This version actually got announced during this press conference as well, as the company talked quite a bit about it.

MIUI 11 rollout starting in October (for China)

The Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G will be the first phone that will ship with MIUI 11, it seems. This version of MIUI will start rolling out to phones starting in October. We’ll talk more about that later on, as a ton of devices are set to receive it.

So, what’s new? Well, MIUI 11 brings a brand new UI design to the table. The whole OS will look more modern now, flatter. Xiaomi made yet another step in the right direction here, it seems.

MIUI 10 looked really good as well, but MIUI 11 only refines that, puts it on a whole new level. The company opted to place a new font to the table, the so-called “Milan Pro”. On top of that, the world’s first dynamic font scaling feature has also been announced.

To make things even more interesting, Xiaomi opted to integrate sounds in the whole picture. MIUI 11 integrates dynamic sound effects which are supposed to resemble ambient sounds from nature.

AOD redesign, new animations & more

AOD has also been redesigned, while a number of new animations have been added. These animations are not over the top, though, at least not based on what we’ve seen. The company also announced some new features for “working professionals”. Mi Work now supports 1-tap projections, document thumbnail preview, and much more.

There are much more features throw in the mix, but we still do not have access to the full changelog. Xiaomi will hopefully release more info in the near future.

Sign-ups for MIUI 11 closed beta will start in China today, while open beta is scheduled to become available on September 27. That open beta software will be available for 17 different devices. Xiaomi also said that it is planning to roll out a stable MIUI 11 build in mid-October.

These are the devices that will get MIUI 11 stable build first (in China): Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 9 Transparent Edition, Mi 9 SE, Mi MIX 3, Mi MIX 2S, Mi 8, Mi 8 Lite, Mi 8 Transparent Explorer Edition, Mi 8 Pro in-display fingerprint version, Mi 8 SE, Mi Max 3, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K20, Pro Premium Edition, Redmi K20, Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro, and Redmi 7.
