OnePlus Will Bring 'Instant Translation' Feature To Its Devices

OnePlus had introduced its OnePlus 7T series of smartphones in London yesterday. During that press event, the company talked about OxygenOS 10 that comes pre-installed on those devices. In that segment, OnePlus also briefly mentioned something called “Instant Translation”.

At that point in time, OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, was on the stage. He announced that a new feature is coming to the company’s devices, and that it is called “Instant Translation”.

This segment only lasted about a minute, as this was just a hint that the feature is coming. Carl Pei said that the company will share “more info soon”.

OnePlus ‘Instant Translation’ feature will offer subtitles for your foreign video calls

During that minute, Mr. Pei did briefly explain what “Instant Translation” is, while adding that OnePlus wanted to make it easier for people to communicate with each other.

“Instant Translation” is a real-time translation feature which will be utilized during video calls, it seems. So, if you’re video calling someone who speaks in a different language, you will see real-time translation laid out on the display in form of subtitles.

That is pretty much all the info that OnePlus shared regarding that feature. We could hear more about it in the coming months, considering that Mr. Pei said we’ll get more info in the near future.

It is reminiscent to Google’s ‘Live Caption’

This feature seems to be inspired by Google’s “Live Caption” feature, it’s difficult not to make that comparison. It will be interesting to see if it is tied to one app only, or will you be able to use it across more than one app. It all depends on how OnePlus aims to implement it.

This may be really useful for businesses, as it will enable communication even if the people in the conversation do not speak the same language.

OnePlus talked at length about OxygenOS 10, and its new smartphones during yesterday’s event. In addition to re-announcing the OnePlus 7T for European markets, the company launched the OnePlus 7T Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition.

The OnePlus 7T Pro looks the same as the OnePlus 7 Pro, basically. OnePlus did bump up its specifications, though, in a number of ways. The OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren Edition, on the other hand, is essentially the OnePlus 7T Pro with a different backplate.

All OnePlus 7T series smartphones are fueled by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, Qualcomm’s most powerful processor. On top of that, all devices ship with Android 10 and OxygenOS 10 out of the box.

Warp Charge 30T fast wired charging is something that they all have in common as well. A 90Hz Fluid AMOLED display is one of the main selling points of all three devices, even though the OnePlus 7T’s panel is a bit lower in resolution than the panels on the 7T Pro units.
