Some Huawei P40 display information just surfaced online. This device is expected to arrive in Q1 2020, and we did see some rumors regarding it, but not many leaks.
This information has been leaked by a tipster called ‘Teme’ on Twitter. According to him, the phone will feature a curved 6.57-inch fullHD+ or QHD+ panel, which will have support for HDR output, and cover 100-percent of the DCI-P3 color space.
He also mentioned that this curved display will be a Waterfall Display, and also an AMOLED panel. In other words, you can expect this display to offer a rather intense curve on the sides.
The Huawei P40 will include a pill-shaped display camera hole
In the comments, he mentioned the name “Advanced Horizon Display”, so that may be a possible name for this display. Now, this display on the Huawei P40 will also have a pill-shaped hole for front-facing cameras, for better or worse.
The source did not mention anything about a high refresh rate. Both the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro will, almost certainly, offer a high refresh rate display, though. Pretty much every major flagship will in 2020, and Huawei won’t allow itself to lag behind.
Now, the source also shared a render, along with his tweet. Many outlets thought this is an actual leak of the device, but it is not.
Teme did mention, in the comments, that this is just a placeholder image. This image has been put together by a third-party, of Teme himself. In any case, it’s not a leak, or anything of the sort.
The Huawei P40 will, almost certainly, launch alongside the P40 Pro. The device will probably become official in Q1 2020, most probably in February.
Both devices are expected to be made out of metal and glass, and include quite a few cameras on the back. Leica’s lenses will be a part of the package, in both cases.
Android will come pre-installed on the P40 series
It remains to be seen what will come pre-installed on the two devices. Huawei did confirm that it is not planning to pre-install Harmony OS on smartphones, at least not yet. So, these two phones will probably come with Android 10, but without Google services, unless Huawei’s ban ends up being reverted in the meantime.
The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro included a small, dewdrop display notch. The Mate 30 Pro includes a notch that is a bit wider, but shorter. The P40 series will, unfortunately, include the unseemly pill-shaped display camera hole, if the provided info is accurate.
Do take the provided info with a grain of salt, though. This is just a rumor at this point, and things could go in a different direction by the time the Huawei 40 series arrives. Also, said display information may have more to do with the P40 Pro, than the P40, but we’ll see. The source did not mention the ‘Pro’ model at all, so… who knows.
