OnePlus 8 Lite Renders Appear, Revealing A Possible Mid-Ranger

According to a new leak, OnePlus is planning to announce a new mid-range smartphone next year. The OnePlus 8 Lite surfaced (the name is not set in stone yet), courtesy of @OnLeaks and 91Mobiles. The alleged OnePlus 8 Lite renders surfaced on 91Mobiles website, and they are CAD-based.

As per usual, the source released these renders in both image and video formats. You can check out the gallery down below if you’d like to check the images, while a video is available as well. This content will show you the phone from all angles, basically.

OnePlus’ CEO recently said that a mid-range phone is not in the company’s plans

Before we get into the content itself, though, let’s just say that this is rather odd. OnePlus’ CEO, Pete Lau, got interviewed back in October, and during that interview, he said that the company is not planning to announce a mid-range phone anytime soon.

Mr. Lau claimed that mid-range phones are not in the company’s plans at all, at least they weren’t in October. Well, that was only two months away, approximately, and it’s hard to believe things changed so much in that period. So it’s possible Pete Lau did not reveal the truth for some reason, or this leak is not legit. As a third option, it’s possible that this phone will come with a flagship SoC, just like its siblings, so OnePlus doesn’t consider it to be a mid-ranger.

In any case, this will be a more alternative option to the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, presuming it ever becomes a reality. Those two phones already leaked recently, and it seems like the 8 Lite will offer a somewhat different design.

If you take a look at the provided smartphone, you’ll notice that it’s made out of metal and glass. That much is expected. It will also include vertically-aligned cameras on the back, and a flat display, it seems.

As a reminder, both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro will include a curved display, as per previous leaks. This phone, unlike the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, will sport a centered display camera hole. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are expected to include a camera hole in the top-left corner.

The OnePlus 8 Lite renders reveal thin bezels, three cameras, and more

The phone will include extremely thin bezels, similar to its siblings. The power / lock button will be included on the right, along with an alert slider. The volume up and down buttons, on the other hand, will sit on the left.

The source claims that this display is between 6.4 and 6.5 inches large (in diagonal), and as you can see, the OnePlus 8 Lite resembles the Galaxy Note 10 series from the front.

A headphone jack will not be included in the package, as expected. A Type-C port will sit on the bottom of the phone, along with a loudspeaker grille. Two cameras will be included on the back of the phone, along with a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. On top of that, an LED flash will sit back there as well.

The device will roughly measure 159.2 x 74 x 8.6mm, claims the source. It will offer an in-display fingerprint scanner, as a capacitive fingerprint scanner is not visible on the phone’s body. An OLED display is expected here, with high refresh rate, probably 90Hz.

If this ends up being a mid-range phone, it will be a spiritual successor to the OnePlus X. It is possible, however, that OnePlus plans to include a flagship chip in this device, and cut corners elsewhere. We’ll see what is OnePlus planning, but according to the provided info, this phone will become a reality. It may launch under a different name, though.
