Huawei has announced its official update schedule for EMUI 10, its latest software based on Android 10. The update kicks off this month for six smartphones. It will gradually expand to other eligible smartphones over the next few months. The company hasn’t revealed any exact dates, though.
Huawei announced the Android 10-based EMUI 10 at the Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) in August last year. The Mate 30 series was launched running the company’s newest Android skin the following month.
EMUI 10 has also been available in beta for some Huawei devices since October, while some units of the P30 and P30 Pro received a stable release in some markets in November. The company is now officially announcing the global stable EMUI 10 rollout schedule for all eligible devices.
Starting this month, the Huawei P30, P30 Pro, Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X (4G), and Nova 5T will all get EMUI 10 update. The Mate 20 RS Porsche Design, Mate 20 X (5G), P30 Lite, Nova 4e, P20, P20 Pro, Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro, Mate 10 Porsche Design, Mate RS Porsche Design, Mate 20 Lite, P Smart 2019 (known as Huawei Nova Lite 3 in some markets), P Smart+ 2019, P smart Pro, P Smart Z, Nova 4, and Nova Lite 3 smartphones will get the update in “later months.”
Note that this update roadmap is only for Huawei devices sold outside China. Chinese versions of Huawei’s smartphones (that has no Google Mobile Services) are getting a different schedule.
Users will get a push notification once the update becomes available for their Huawei smartphone. They can also manually check for updates through the device’s settings or through the HiCare app.
What’s new in EMUI 10?
Despite falling in a tricky situation within the Android ecosystem, more so when it comes to launching new devices, Huawei continues to support its existing handsets.
The Android 10-based EMUI 10 brings many of the features that are part and parcel of the latest iteration of Android OS, including a system-wide dark mode, new animations, and more.
In case you’re wondering, updating to EMUI 10 won’t remove Google apps from your Huawei device. Apps such as the Play Store and Google Maps will continue to function as before.
In its press release announcing the update schedule, Huawei emphasizes interface updates and multi-screen collaboration, which enables seamless interaction between Huawei phones and PCs.
Transferring files between the devices will be as simple as dragging and dropping, the company says.
Huawei also talks about performance and security improvements with upgraded GPU Turbo in EMUI 10. You can find out more about what to expect from EMUI 10 here.
