Yet another Huawei P40 series handset has just surfaced in renders, the P40 Pro PE variant. This handset, unlike the P40 and P40 Pro, will be made out of ceramic and metal, not metal and glass.
That will not be the only difference, though, it seems. The Huawei P40 Pro PE also has a slightly different-looking camera setup on the back, compared to the P40 Pro.
Many of you are probably wondering what the ‘PE’ stands for. Well, we don’t not, not yet. It could mean Premium Edition, or something of the sort, it makes sense. We’re only guessing at this point, though.
The Huawei P40 Pro PE renders show the device in both black and white variants
These Huawei P40 Pro PE renders come from Evan Blass aka @evleaks. He shared the device in both black and white variants, as you can see.
These renders actually provide a look at the device from all angles. You can instantly see that the phone will not include a 3.5mm headphone jack. A Type-C USB port will be placed on the bottom, along with a speaker grille.
The phone’s rear camera module will protrude quite a bit. All the physical keys on the P40 Pro PE will sit on the right-hand side of this phone. You will notice that this device has that pill-shaped camera cutout on the front, the same as the P40 Pro.
Huawei opted to include that cutout in the top-left corner, while it was placed in the top-right corner on the Galaxy S10+. That is not the most appealing design choice, that’s for sure, but Huawei apparently thinks it’s the right call.
The Huawei P40 Pro PE will feature a curved display, the same as the P40 Pro. The regular model will feature a flat display, by the way.
The phone will include five cameras on the back, same as the P40 Pro
You can see that the phone features five cameras on the back. One of those cameras is a periscope-style camera, the rectangular one. Huawei debuted its periscope-style camera on the Huawei P30 Pro last year, and received quite a bit of praise because of it. Well, a new iteration will be back on the P40 Pro and P40 Pro PE.
This handset will be fueled by the Kirin 990, Huawei’s flagship SoC. That chip comes with an integrated 5G modem, and the P40 Pro PE may become available in a 5G variant only.
The device will include plenty of RAM, quite probably even more than the P40 Pro. It will also include plenty of storage, but we don’t know how much exactly, not yet.
The Huawei P40 series of devices will become official on March 26, that is something we revealed yesterday. You can also check out our exclusive render of the P40 Pro by clicking here.
