A brand new budget-friendly device from Lenovo-owned Moto brand, dubbed the Moto G8 Power Lite, is set to launch at some point in the near future. That’s based on a recent report stemming from a recent listing on Thailand’s NBTC certification website. The listing shows the device with the model number XT2055-1 but also specifically with the Moto G8 Power Lite model designation.
Not much information is made available on this device. But it does confirm at least a couple of details. For starters, this is a 4G LTE phone. It will work with GSM and WCMDA networks. The Moto G8 Power Lite is set to be produced in the United States.
What’s the point of the Moto G8 Power Lite
Now, it’s also previously been revealed in an FCC listing that this device model number packs a 5,000mAh battery. That’s hardly surprising since the purpose of the “Power” branding is to designate devices that have better battery life. In fact, Lenovo’s Moto G7 Power currently occupies that position on the Android Headlines top budget devices list — expressly for its battery life.
The company has already revealed some information about the Moto G8 Power though and that should give some indication as to what this device is.
The Moto G8 Power is an Android 10 handset. It comes in a 6.4-inch fullHD+ display format with a 5,000mAh battery. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665, a 64-bit octa-core processor, will power that device. Lenovo is backing that SoC up with a healthy but not stellar 4GB of RAM. 64GB of storage will provide an adequate amount of space for apps and media.
That’s alongside a few novelty features such as Dolby-tuned stereo speakers. Rumors have implicated a 25-megapixel selfie snapper, coupled with a 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel dual rear camera. 18W fast charging may also be a part of the package so that the device will be quick to charge within its price bracket, even if it isn’t the fastest due to its battery capacity.
Judging by the “Lite” branding, the Moto G8 Power Lite will be a similar device but the specs will be drawn back. So it will likely arrive with a less powerful processor, less RAM, and less storage. That’s not necessarily guaranteed since Lenovo could ultimately only choose to cut any of those corners in any combination. But this will undoubtedly be a lesser, more affordable variant.
When exactly will this phone arrive?
The expected launch timeline for the new budget-friendlier Moto G8 Power variant was initially thought to be around March. But that was also reportedly directly tied in with the now-canceled MWC 2020 global mobile event.
The world’s biggest mobile event takes place in Barcelona near the end of February. But GSMA called off the event over global concerns centering around the coronavirus outbreak. Several major vendors and companies such as MediaTek and Intel pulled out of the event well ahead of the cancellation as well. That undoubtedly impacted GSMA’s decision to call the whole thing off for this year.
That doesn’t necessarily mean Lenovo will choose a different launch timeframe for its Motos. But it could, considering the fact that it’s lost the world’s largest mobile event as a platform for that announcement.
