Huawei had three flagship smartphones today, the Huawei P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+. We’ve already talked about them in our original announcement, and now it’s time to take a closer look at the Huawei P40 series specifications.
Before we get down to it, however, it’s worth noting that all three of these phones feature a frame made out of metal. The P40 and P40 Pro utilize glass backs, while the P40 Pro+ features ceramic on its back.
The Huawei P40 is the smallest, and it is the only one that has a flat display. The P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ are quite similar, and both include the same curved display (curved on all four sides).
Do note that all three phones also offers Directional Audio Zoom, thanks to three microphones that are included. Android 10 comes pre-installed on all three smartphones, along with EMUI 10.1.
As part of EMUI 10.1, Huawei announced several new features, such as drag-and-drop feature from one window to the other, and its very own virtual assistant calle d ‘Celia’. That being said, let’s take a look at their specs, starting with the P40.
Huawei P40 specifications
The Huawei P40 features a 6.1-inch fullHD+ (2340 x 1080) OLED display. This is not a high refresh rate display, by the way, it’s limited to 60Hz. This is the only P40 phone that does not offer a high refresh rate panel.
The device is fueled by the Kirin 990 64-bit octa-core processor, and it supports 5G connectivity. The phone also includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That storage is expandable via the new Nano Memory Card 2.
The Huawei P40 features three cameras on its back. A 50-megapixel UltraVision camera is the main one. It comes with an RYYB setup, and it includes a wide-angle lens with an f/1.9 aperture. A 23mm lens is included, and the camera supports OIS.
In addition to that, you’ll also find a 16-megapixel ultrawide camera (17mm lens, f/2.2 aperture), and an 8-megapixel telephoto camera (3x optical zoom, 80mm lens, f/2.4 aperture, OIS). A 32-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens is placed on the front, along with a depth sensor.
A 3,800mAh battery is included inside of this phone, and it supports 22.5W wired charging, and 27W wireless charging. This phone is IP53 certified, and it comes with two SIM card slots. It also includes an in-display fingerprint scanner (optical), and Bluetooth 5.1.
Do note that Google services are not included. The Huawei P40 measures 148.9 x 71.06 x 8.5mm, and weighs 175 grams. The Huawei P40 will be available in five color variants, Black, Deep Sea Blue, Ice White, Silver Frost, and Blush Gold.
Huawei P40 Pro specifications
The Huawei P40 Pro features a 6.58-inch fullHD+ (2680 x 1200) OLED display with 90Hz refresh rate. This is a curved display, by the way, unlike the one on the P40.
This handset is also fueled by the Kirin 990 64-bit octa-core SoC, and it supports 5G connectivity. The Huawei P40 Pro sports 8GB of RAM and you can choose between 128GB and 256GB of storage (expandable via Nano Memory Card 2).
A 50-megapixel UltraVision sensor with RYYB is included here as well. It’s the same one as on the P40, it’s a 23mm lens with an f/1.9 aperture, and OIS.
In addition to that, the P40 Pro includes a 40-megapixel ultrawide camera (18mm Cine Lens, f/1.8 aperture). A 12-megapixel RYYB periscope camera is included as well (125mm lens, f/3.4 aperture, OIS, 5x optical zoom), and a Huawei ToF (Time-of-Flight) lens is also a part of the package.
This handset has the same 32-megapixel camera on the front as the P40, but with a different aperture (f/2.2), and a depth sensor next to it. This handset also includes an IR sensor on the front, in addition to those two cameras.
A 4,200mAh battery is included inside the Huawei P40 Pro, and it supports 40W charging. On top of that, 27W wireless charging is supported, along with reverse wireless charging.
This handset comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, two SIM card slots, and Bluetooth 5.1. The Huawei P40 Pro measures 158.2 x 72.6 x 8.95mm, and weighs 203 grams. The Huawei P40 Pro comes in five color variants, same as the P40 – Black, Deep Sea Blue, Ice White, Silver Frost, and Blush Gold.
Huawei P40 Pro+ specifications
The Huawei P40 Pro+ includes the exact same display size as the ‘Pro’ model. This is a fullHD+ OLED display (2640 x 1200) with 90Hz refresh rate.
The phone is fueled by the same processor as the other two devices, the Kirin 990 from Huawei. The device does support 5G connectivity, just like its siblings.
You’ll find 8GB of RAM inside of this phone, along with 512GB of internal storage. The phone also supports storage expansion via the Nano Memory Card 2, and it offers two SIM card slots.
This handset has the same 50 and 40-megapixel cameras as the ‘Pro’ model. It includes a 50-megapixel UltraVision sensor with RYYB setup, and a wide-angle lens. This is a 23mm lens, with an f/1.9 aperture. This camera does support OIS.
A 40-megapixel ultrawide camera is also included on the back, with an 18mm Cine Lens, and an f/1.8 aperture. Huawei also included two 8-megapixel telephoto cameras on the back of this device.
One of them is a periscope-style camera, and it offers 10x optical zoom, along with 30x hybrid zoom. This is a 240mm lens with an f/4.4 aperture, and OIS is supported.
The other 8-megapixel camera offers 3x optical zoom, and we’re looking at a 125mm lens here, with an f/2.4 aperture, and OIS support. On top of all that, the Huawei TOF lens is included on the back as well.
The device has the same 32-megapixel camera on the front as the ‘Pro’ model, and with the same lens. An IR sensor is also included. It does support Bluetooth 5.1, and is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.
The Huawei P40 Pro+ offers the fastest (wired) charging
This handset has the same battery as the Huawei P40 Pro, a 4,200mAh battery. It does support faster charging than its siblings, though, at 50W for wired charging. Wireless charging is the faster than on the other two phones, at 40W. The phone measures 158.2 x 72.6 x 8.95mm, and weighs 203 grams. The Huawei P40 Pro+ will be available for purchase in Ceramic Black and Ceramic White color options.
