BOE’s VP has confirmed that the whole Huawei P40 series of smartphones features BOE’s flexible OLED displays. That is the same company that supplies Huawei with displays for the Huawei Mate Xs.
The whole Huawei P40 flagship lineup includes flexible OLED displays from BOE
The Huawei P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+ all feature flexible OLED displays from BOE, but they’re not the same, even though they’re all fullHD+ panels. The Huawei P40 includes a 6.1-inch flat OLED display with 60Hz refresh rate.
The P40 Pro and P40 Pro+, on the other hand, include a 6.58-inch fullHD+ curved panel with 90Hz refresh rate. They have the exact same display which is curved on four sides.
Huawei has, once again, opted not to include a QHD+ display in its smartphones. During the press conference, Huawei’s CEO said that the human eye cannot see the difference in resolution between these panels, and QHD+ ones either way.
So, including QHD+ displays would just raise the price tag, drain more battery, and wouldn’t make much sense, that’s pretty much what was implied. Huawei did opt to include high refresh rate displays on two out of three of its phones, though.
This is the first time that Huawei decided to use high refresh rate displays on its smartphones. The company did decide to go with 90Hz though, not 120Hz panels, as that would definitely affect battery life.
The Huawei P40 Pro+ is the only one to include ceramic on its back
All three of these smartphones come with a frame made out of metal, while the P40 and P40 Pro feature glass backplates. The Huawei P40 Pro+, on the other hand, comes with a ceramic backplate.
These three devices feature a pill-shaped display camera hole, and extremely thin bezels. All devices sport a 50-megapixel UltraVision main camera on the back, but the rest of their cameras are not identical.
Google services are not included on these phones, Huawei has included its own due to the US ban. Android 10 does come pre-installed on all phones, though, along with EMUI 10.1.
Huawei has even included its very own virtual assistant on these phones, called ‘Celia. On top of that, various other EMUI features have been added to make these phones more productive.
All three phones are water and dust resistant, but the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+ have a considerably better rating (IP68 vs IP53). Fast charging is included on all phones, but the P40 Pro and P40 Pro+’s is faster. Those two devices also offer wireless charging, unlike the P40.
All in all, these three phones are quite powerful, and it will be interesting to see how well will they sell. If you’d like to know more about their specs, click here.
