Huawei has a new smartwatch coming out next week. According to a new report from Win Future, the Chinese tech giant is preparing to announce the Huawei Watch GT 2e alongside its P40 flagship smartphone series on March 26. Accompanying images also reveal the new watch’s design.
As the name suggests, the Huawei Watch GT 2e is an iteration of the original Watch GT 2 from last fall. It keeps the circular dial but sports a slight change in the overall design.
The dial has a new tachymeter design while the round side-mounted buttons are replaced by two less protruding rectangular buttons on the new watch.
Huawei is also offering new quick-release bands with the Watch GT 2e. These new bands, along with the new lugs, eliminate the space between the dial and strap that’s there in the Watch GT 2. All these changes give the Watch GT 2e a much sportier look and feel.
The new watch has dimensions of 53 x 10.8 x 46.8 mm but surprisingly weighs just 25 grams without the straps. It comes in only one size variant – 46mm. So it’s a rather large watch and Huawei could be looking to appeal a select section of the audience here.
Huawei Watch GT 2e specifications
The Huawei Watch GT 2e appears to be a design update only. It retains most of the specs of the Watch GT 2.
We are still looking at a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 454×454 pixels. Under the hood is the energy-efficient HiSilicon Hi1132 chipset along with 16MB of RAM and 4GB of storage.
A 455 mAh Li-ion battery fuels the watch. It takes about one and a half hours to charge fully via the magnetic contact pins on the back. One full charge keeps the watch running for up to 14 days, depending upon usage. Sensors onboard include barometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, motion sensor, pedometer, and more.
You also get GPS, sleep tracking, upgraded heart rate and rhythm monitor, and calorie measurement with this new watch. The Huawei Watch GT 2e has a waterproof design and offers voice control features.
For connectivity, you get Bluetooth 5.1. The watch is compatible with Android smartphones running Android 4.4 or higher as well as iPhones running iOS 9.0 or higher.
Pricing and availability details of the Huawei Watch GT 2e are yet to be confirmed. Rumors suggest it’ll be priced at around 200 euros. Huawei will reportedly offer the watch in three color variants, namely graphite black, volcano red, and mint green.
Since it’s mostly a design update, it should quickly arrive in stores after the March 26 launch. Huawei’s also unveiling its P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro Premium Edition (PE) flagships next Thursday.
