Razer has partnered up with Amazon to integrate Alexa with its Synapse 3 software, allowing Alexa to control your Chroma lighting.
This new integration is now baked into Razer Synapse 3 through a dedicated module. So the big deal here is that you don’t need any Alexa-powered hardware like an Echo speaker to control things.
You simply have to have the new Alexa module for Synapse 3 installed and then speak to Alexa through the mic on your headset. A standalone mic works too.
This new integration won’t just let you control your Chroma lighting though. It’ll actually do a whole lot more than that.
The Razer Synapse 3 Alexa integration controls more than your Chroma lighting
Controlling your Chroma setup is really just the beginning. The new Alexa module for Razer Synapse 3 appears to control just about anything on your PC by voice.
It can’t really control everything, but it does seem to have a wide set of functions. If you need to adjust the volume on your PC audio, Alexa has you covered through this new module. And again, all without additional Alexa-powered hardware.
You can also ask Alexa to start a Chroma party, and even open your browser for you. If you’re already sitting at your computer you might just find it easier to open your browser or adjust the volume the manual way. But it doesn’t hurt to have the voice integration.
The real power comes from the smart home control
Having Alexa control your Chroma lighting is a nice touch. But the real power of this integration is getting smart home control on your PC.
With this new module you can control your smart lights, your smart plugs, and really any other smart home product that works with Alexa. All from your PC chair and all through the PC or headset microphone.
That in and of itself is the real game changer. You might be in the middle of a game and want to adjust your lights by turning them on or off. Where normally you might have to wait until your game is at a point where you can stop temporarily, now you can just ask Alexa to do it for you right then and there.
How many times have you been in this situation where you want to turn the lights off to get rid of the glare on your monitor. Or just adjust the lighting to better fit the mood of the game. Only to wait until a more opportune moment approaches.
Now you don’t have to wait. And that’s a wonderful feeling. Other more practical uses might be to turn off lights or other appliances that are in other rooms so you don’t waste power. Letting you continue your game sessions without having to get up.
You can also use this new module to ask Alexa questions, and interact with a whole host of Alexa skills. These features should already be live, though you may have to update your software.
