Huawei may make a surprising move and announce a new high-end ‘Mate’ smartphone in May or June. This information comes from Weibo, from a Chinese tipster.
He claims that this phone will not be a part of the Mate 40 series of devices. The Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro are expected to debut later this year, at least if their predecessors are any indication.
This high-end ‘Mate’ smartphone is expected to succeed the Huawei Mate S
This new, mysterious smartphone is supposed to succeed the Huawei Mate S. The Huawei Mate S, as some of you may recall, launched back in September 2015. That device offered high-end specifications for that time period, and was a compelling phone.
Huawei may be looking to disrupt the market a bit with this launch. All we know at the moment, is that this mysterious high-end device from Huawei will be a part of the ‘Mate’ lineup.
We also know the timeframe of the launch, but that’s basically it. The design of the device is a complete mystery, as are its specifications. We can try and guess some of the details, though, as we do know this is supposed to be a high-end phone.
The phone will probably be made out of metal and glass, as are the vast majority of other flagships. It is possible Huawei may offer something different, though, of course.
The Kirin 990 will definitely fuel this phone, presuming it becomes a reality. The Kirin 990 is the most powerful processor Huawei has to offer at the moment, though its successor is coming later this year.
This mysterious phone is also expected to offer a compelling camera setup on the back, and plenty of RAM and storage. Huawei will probably include LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 or 3.1 storage.
An AMOLED display with high refresh rate is also expected
An AMOLED display will probably be included, and if this ends up being a high-end device, you can also expect a high refresh rate to be a part of the package.
Huawei will probably include a large battery as well, along with fast charging. Do note that we’re only making educated guesses here, as the details regarding this phone are scarce.
Huawei already introduced its P40 series of devices this year. The company announced the Huawei P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro+, all of which are high-end devices.
We do not know how would another high-end phone fit into the company’s plans, but there you have it. Take this rumor with a grain of salt, though, as nothing has been confirmed just yet.
