The OnePlus 8 series will be getting bi-monthly Android security updates. In other words, you should get one security update every other month. This is nothing new, though.
This has been the case with previous OnePlus devices as well. It’s nothing to write home about, but it is worth mentioning, as a reminder to all of you who plan on getting either of the two phones.
OnePlus has been pushing out bi-monthly security updates since 2018, and the same will be the case for the OnePlus 8 series. This policy has been in use since the launch of the OnePlus 6.
The OnePlus 8 series will be getting bi-monthly security update, and two years of complete software support
Do note that you will be getting two years of complete software support, though. That includes major Android updates as well, of course. The Android security update for March has started rolling out already, as we mentioned earlier today.
You won’t be getting the April security patch, but the one for May will become available. The same will apply for the coming months as well, and the next couple of years.
The OnePlus 8 series was announced quite recently. The company announced both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, and they’re considerably more expensive than before.
Both devices have been sold out really fast in the US, though. Do note that both are currently in the pre-order state, so real sales haven’t started yet. The two phones will go on sale in the US on April 29.
The OnePlus 8 series is still available in Europe, though, for pre-order. In Europe, the two phones are even more expensive than in the US. They are still more affordable than more mainstream flagships, though.
These two devices are both similar and different at the same time
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are quite similar in the design department. Both are made out of metal and glass, have a display camera hole, and curved displays. The OnePlus 8 Pro includes an extra camera on the back, and it is a bit larger.
On the inside, however, there are quite a few differences. The OnePlus 8 Pro includes a higher-res display, which also comes with a higher refresh rate.
The phone offers a more compelling camera setup on the back, and faster RAM. The ‘Pro’ model is also the only one to offer 30W wireless charging, and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
These two phones are similar in some ways, but considerably different in others. If you’d like to know more, check out our comparison of the two devices.
