The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have started receiving their very first software update. This update comes before the two devices even made it to the hands of consumers.
The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have been available for pre-order for a couple of days now. The two phones have been sold out in the US, but are still available in Europe.
The first OnePlus 8 series software update brings quite a few changes
This update comes marked as OxygenOS 10.5.4, and the changelog is quite long, actually. The update should be available to everyone who purchases one of these phones the moment they power it on, and connect to the Internet.
‘System’ changes represent the longest list in the changelog. This update will improve system stability, and improve icon display in the status bar. The back gesture experience has also been tweaked, it seems.
You’ll be able to integrate the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z with Dolby Atmos when you update. This should improve the sound quality of OnePlus’ new earphones.
OnePlus has also added the ability to wake up the lockscreen in ambient display mode, or off-screen condition. This was planned to be included from the get-go, and now it will, kind of.
The ‘OnePlus Tips & Support” section has been added to Settings. You can check out new features here, and also get answers to various common issues in this sub-menu.
Live Caption has been added via this update. This feature can detect speech in media and automatically generate captions. You’ll need to go to the Settings, then System, Accessibility, and there you will be able to enable the feature.
A new security patch is included here as well
This update also brings a new Android security patch, for March. On top of that, it updates the GMS package to February 2020. That is pretty much it as far as ‘System’ changes are concerned.
This update will improve the camera experience as well. OnePlus says that this update optimizes the camera shooting experience, and improves stability.
The animation effect is also optimized, and the same goes for ‘interaction experience’ with the camera app. A ‘video filter’ feature has been added via this update as well. Fingerprint-scanning has also been improved here, while the company added contact notes info for incoming calls. The network data transmission has been optimized as well.
The last entry in the changelog is about the Voice Assistant. You can wake up a voice assistant of your choice on the OnePlus 8 series by long-pressing the power button. You’ll need to enable this, though, in Settings -> Buttons & Gestures. That’s pretty much it for the first OnePlus 8 series software update.
