The Google Pixel 4a may not arrive until July this year. YouTuber Jon Prosser, who runs the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, says the company is currently planning to announce its upcoming affordable Pixel phone on Monday, July 13.
The Pixel 4a was originally expected to launch at Google I/O 2020, which was scheduled to take place on May 12–14. However, the event got canceled because of the ongoing pandemic, subsequently delaying the handset’s launch. Rumors afterward suggested a June launch, but it appears there will be a longer delay.
Google fixes a July 13 launch date for the Pixel 4a
Google has yet to make an official announcement regarding the Pixel 4a launch. However, the rumor mill has been abuzz with speculations, and the latest one comes from a pretty reliable source.
Jon Prosser claims that the new Pixel smartphone will launch on July 13 in Just Black and Barely Blue colors.
Google is apparently ready with the device but is deliberately delaying the launch in view of the COVID-19-induced global economic crisis. The company will make the final decision regarding the release date based on market analysis.
The Pixel 4a will only come in the LTE (4G) variant, Jon confirms, although that’s not surprising at all. Google is likely reserving 5G support for the flagship Pixel 5 series.
The source further adds that there’s no evidence of a bigger Pixel 4a XL model. Google is believed to have canceled it altogether, despite some rumors suggesting otherwise.
As for the Pixel 4a, it is expected to feature a 5.81-inch Full HD+ OLED punch-hole display. It is a 60Hz panel with 1080 x 2340 pixels resolution.
Under the hood is likely the Snapdragon 730 chipset, with 6GB of RAM. The handset may arrive in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. There’s no evidence of a MicroSD card support as yet.
The Pixel 4a is likely to borrow the camera sensors from its more expensive sibling, the Pixel 4. If that’s the case, expect a 12.2-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing sensor. Check out this Pixel 4a camera review that leaked earlier this month.
A 3,080mAh battery fuels this phone. It supports 18W fast wired charging. There’s no wireless charging here. A 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port, capacitive fingerprint sensor, and Android 10 are also part of the package.
The Pixel 4a will cost slightly lesser than Pixel 3a last year. Rumors have it that the base model will retail for $349, as compared to the $399 price tag of Pixel 3a. We should get a clearer picture in the coming days, as Google prepares for its launch.
