Verizon has revealed the arrival and pricing for three new mid-range smartphones now available on its network. The devices come from LG and the Lenovo-owned Moto brand. Each delivers slightly different options to suit user needs. That means there’s plenty of variety, with prices ranging from just under $250 to around $350.
LG Q70 delivers a long-lasting battery, immersive build
The most expensive of Verizon’s new offerings is the LG Q70. That’s being put up for sale in a mirror black configuration for $349.99. Buyers can also opt to make payments via Verizon Device Payment for just $14.58 per month.
Now, this isn’t exactly the same device launched back in August of last year. To begin with, that handset was introduced with three rear cameras. This phone only has two at the back — a 32-megapixel primary snapper and a 5-megapixel depth camera. That’s in addition to the forward-facing 16-megapixel selfie snapper. But the AI-enhanced cameras should still offer a great experience for the price.
The big selling points for this smartphone are its battery life and display. Packed under the 6.4-inch FHD+ FullVision display, LG has included a 4,000mAh capacity battery with this smartphone. That’s good, the company claims, for up to 22-days standby and up to 45.92 hours of usage time.
That battery drives an octa-core Snapdragon 675 SoC backed by 64GB of expandable storage up to 2TB via microSD card. LG includes 4GB of memory. LG squeezed all of that into dust, water, and shock-resistant metal frame. More directly, that’s MIL-STD-810G-rated, despite featuring glass panels at front and back.
Moto G Power brings a multi-day battery on a budget
Jumping to the other end of the new mid-range smartphones from Verizon is the Moto G Power, priced at just $249.99. Here, the payments via Verizon Device Payment start out at just $10.41 per month. That’s for the Vulcan black variant of the Moto G Power.
As its branding suggests, this is one of a few new gadgets under the moto-brand. But this one, specifically, focuses on battery. With 22-days of claimed standby and up to 50-hours of use on a single charge, this phone should get most users through up to three days between powering up. That’s thanks to a 5,000mAh capacity battery powering the same Snapdragon 665 SoC found in Google’s Pixel a-series handsets.
Backing up the processor here is 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The latter is expandable up to 512GB via microSD card. Dual Dolby-tuned speakers adorn the frame surrounding this handset’s 6.4-inch FHD+ Max Vision IPS display too. So do two 16-megapixel snappers, at the front and back. The main camera is enhanced with phase-detection autofocus and accompanied by two other lenses for wide-angle and macro shots.
The build here is not IP-rated like the LG above, but it is sweat, splash, and spill proof as well as delivering a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Moto G Stylus is a bit more camera-centric and comes with a pen
The final new gadget rounding out the new Verizon mid-range smartphones lineup is another Moto — the Moto G Stylus. That starts out at either $12.49 per month or $299.99 outright. That’s being sold in a Graphene Blue coloration. Moto also packed it with almost identical specs to the above-mentioned Moto G Power. That’s true for the processor, the speakers, RAM, and storage, as well as the battery.
The primary differences here are going to be found in the camera, battery life, and this device’s namesake. On the latter front, that’s thanks to an in-frame, device-housed pressure-sensitive stylus. That allows greater productivity from note-taking to art at the cost of battery life.
The battery here will only allow up to two days on a single charge. That’s a claimed 17.7-day standby time and up to 40 hours of usage.
Trading in to make that expense worth it, Motorola packed this phone with a 48-megapixel camera sensor backed by laser-guided autofocus. As a result, the photos snapped by the Moto G Stylus should come out well-above what might be expected for the price. As with the G Power, the Moto G Stylus brings a Macro Vision and ultra-wide-angle lens along for the ride too.
